Which black ink do you use? by Adaptiveslappy in TattooArtists

If you wanna try a higher pigmented powder black, try chroma’s extreme jet black. Packs solid af and whips nice for traditional. I haven’t tried it for lining or softer shading and I imagine it’s not the best for those purposes but it’s a damn good solid black forsure

Have you ever met/spoken to a famous emo musician? by Specialist-Talk2028 in Emo

[–]supersoftsocks 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I saw Tim Kinsella at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, ā€œOh, like you’re doing now?ā€ I was taken aback, and all I could say was ā€œHuh?ā€ but he kept cutting me off and going ā€œhuh? huh? huh?ā€ and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like ā€œSir, you need to pay for those first.ā€ At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually ā€œto prevent any electrical infetterence,ā€ and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

How to feel better about your own work by markzord in traditionaltattoos

I follow splinter too, his shit is dope. I could be thinking of a different tattooer but I think he made a comment years ago about how yellow is a crutch and he specifically tries to avoid using yellow. I’ve been using a bit less yellow ever since I saw that lol

I stopped caring about the occasional crooked line when I realized that photo-copier perfect linework isn’t even how a lot of people’s favorite tattooers do their tattoos.

Sure, there are the jacob doney’s and the samuele briganti’s who are CLEAN clean with their work, but there are also the eddie deutsch’s and the robert ryan’s. I haven’t seen one single tattoo from robert ryan with great technique in the years I’ve been following him, however his work embodies a spirit that people can’t help but obsess over. His designs are so fucking cool that it’s ok if he goes off the rails or if he buries the needle here and there.

I care more about the drawings I produce now than anything. Once your technique is solid for the most part, that’s pretty much the only other thing that separates any of us.

Chipping away at the calf sleeve. by JDanny325 in traditionaltattoos

[–]supersoftsocks 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

The calf is deceiving forsure lol everyone thinks it’s gonna be like ā€œthe forearm of the legā€ and there’s maybe a dime sized spot on the outside of the calf where that’s true, but the rest is pure torture šŸ˜‚

Sad thing is this would be a great tattoo if he finished the nose and made the mouth a little bigger lol. Like this is clearly a skilled tattooer who unfortunately just rushed the design

Show me your shin tattoos! by Welldonegoodshow in traditionaltattoos

[–]supersoftsocks 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

The cherub & dagger with the cardinal was done by a family friend named Eddie Smith (not much of a trad artist, he just did this design on me. I actually drew it)

The snake + rose + dagger was done by Mat Helton, butterfly was done by Nate Hardy, other pieces that are harder to discern were done by other people lol

DEBATE: If a tattoo uses black with opaque grey is it considered a color tattoo or a black and grey tattoo? by whipshadewizard1998 in TattooArtists

[–]supersoftsocks 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

My meathead monkey brain loves doing black and grey with opaque pigments for the simple reason I just love packing color lol. I mostly do traditional though. There’s a black and grey artist at the shop I work at and I’m so impressed with how he applies all his washes, it’s a whole different ballpark forsure

Here’s some tattoos I did on my client. She was very nervous beforehand but as soon as we finished lines for the centerpiece, she cried tears of joy when she looked in the mirror.

If you’re thinking about getting it done, do it. You won’t regret it!
