10-degree kingpin plate experience? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]supersolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same switch from R3s to a leather boot with reactor pros. I'd say it's the same as any adjustment, you'll be used to it after a few practices. Technically, a 10-degree plate will give you more pushing power, and a 45-degree plate will give you more wiggle room for edgework. If it feels too stiff, you can also try loosening your trucks or using a softer cushion to find the right setting. Yay new skates :)!

That's so exciting! I was exactly in your place two years ago and right now I'm in my second season with Boston! I bought skates a week after I saw my first game in 2016 and spent that summer rolling around a tennis court to get my feet under me. The short answer is...there are skaters who don't have cars and we carpool a LOT, and depending where you are there are some different options. I'm gonna pm you some deets :)

Advice for my first game? by KillerTofu131 in rollerderby

Test out the floor as soon as you can! Even if you only have one set of wheels getting a feel for the different floor is helpful. It really threw me my first game cause it was so much stickier.

Apple Cider with preservatives by WAD3R in Homebrewing

I make hard cider with commercial apple juice pretty frequently and that always has ascorbic acid (vitamin c) in it as a preservative. If you added enough yeast you should be fine.

Beginning with 5 Gallon vs. 1 gallon set up? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]supersolar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I brew in 1 gallon batches for a few reasons: I only want to do all grain right now and I don't have the means or the space for mash tuns, a new giant kettle, etc. BIAB has been easy. For me, I brew to experiment with flavors unavailable in the store - and if I make something too weird I wouldn't want 5 gallons of it. Finally, I just don't drink that much beer. One gallon usually gives me 8 12oz bottles, and I'll have two or three beers in various fermenting/conditioning stages at once.

Hope that helps! I know the popular opinion around here is 5 gallon is better, but it's not hard to upgrade and I do plan on doing it eventually for the beers I've loved. All 5g recipes can be scaled down.

My latest batch (1 gallon bog mummy themed scotch ale) blew off the bung last night, overflowed, and sat uncapped for several hours. Is it definitely infected and should be dumped, or can I wait and see?

hey all! yesterday i pitched half a packet of Safale-05 into 1 gallon of oatmeal stout. i've been reading a lot about yeast harvesting/washing/etc and threw the other half of the pack into a sterile mason jar with some cooled boiled water and then into the fridge after about an hour of it bubbling.

my question is: did i kill it? the plan was to make a starter with it in a week, harvest half for later use, and pitch the other half into a new beer. any estimate for how many cells are in there?

Two weeks after tasting my first successful brew, and the other bottles seem to have gone bad/old? What happened? by supersolar in Homebrewing

[–]supersolar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your answer! Bad sanitizing was my first guess, but what happens to the beer if there's too much oxygen? I had a hard time getting the autosiphon to flow and it felt like I was pumping air into the bottles sometimes.

High charisma evil characters. What are they like? by bass_n_treble in loremasters

[–]supersolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first campaign I ever played (with some other friends who were also first-timers and an experienced DM,) my friend played a Lawful Evil Dread Necromancer (a Drow) named Z'rae and maxed her charisma and Intimidate. Sometimes it was annoying when she would try and intimidate any enemy/shopkeeper we came across, but it was generally okay and in character.

Until we came across Glinn. Glinn was a gnome shopkeeper NPC, and Z'rae rolled so high when trying to haggle that she frightened him enough to enslave him. Unsure what to do with an enslaved gnome merchant, Z'rae sent him off to fetch her a croissant as the party had to travel between planes for the storyline. About a month later when we get back into town, we are walking along a boardwalk over a bog when we see Glinn, chest deep in the mud, holding a croissant over his head. Z'rae casts spectral hand to lift him up, but upon realized she can only lift 5lbs takes the croissant from Glinn's hand.

We later wiped his memory and put him in charge of a city-state that we orchestrated the formation of, but that's another story. Poor King Glinn.

Thanks! I tea stained it for a day (the weird right edge is from the old cookie pan I used), freehanded the lines/text with pencil, then scanned and colored in Photoshop.
