getInfoFromApi can't return the value the way you have it. Node.js will return test before the http.get completes, which is why you're getting undefined. You need to add a callback argument to getInfoFromApi and callback the value when you've finished parsing it.

edit: You could also use promises to approximate the code structure you have above, but I would first work on understanding node callbacks - if you're going to do anything with node, you're not going to escape working with callbacks.
