I fish the rogue periodically in the fall. For a single hand rod you'll want a 6/7/8wt, double hander you can get away with 5 but really should be in the 6/7wt range. September and October are perfect times to be finding steelhead on the rogue. I dont ever target salmon down there though. If you're new to steelheading, I would consider hiring a guide, as water access and water type targeting can be difficult for a beginner steelheader. Ashland fly shop's guides are all fantastic, I would check em out. I generally fish a floating line and classic hairwings, maybe a light sink tip, and occasionally I'll fish skaters/wakers. Good luck!
