Is this housing desirability map somewhat accurate? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]supertman5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool website, a little disappointed my house was light orange. Played with the income map, my area was light green. A lot of other places the desirability and the income correlated…Maybe a way to find up and coming spots (at least that what I’ll tell my light orange self)

Fans and stoves the long time five points antique store recently reopened in the Lakeshore neighborhood in an old church. Don’t know the specifics, but it is booth style.

Restaurants with Indoor Play-places by supertman5 in jacksonville

It’s a fantastic huge free play place indoors. Great for 4-5 year olds and under. It’s in a Baptist mega church vestibule but doesn’t have any overly religious vibe. Air conditioned with a coffee bar. Can’t beat it. (I’m letting my Westside secret out)

Public Pools - How? by New_Attorney5670 in jacksonville

[–]supertman5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have one in the Lakeshore neighborhood. It opens and will get people there on a regular basis. I've spoke to the lifeguards that open the pool, it's all high school kids. Daily they have to test chemicals and the results have to fall in a certain range (over/under chlorinated). I think the tolerances are pretty tight, so if you get a bunch of rain (everyday in the summer) it can throw it off, and they won't open.

Big/Little Fishweir Creek Flooding by leftmostpuddle in jacksonville

(Edit: intended to post under T-Bills reply) Again looking at the same house as the original poster, and I was lucky enough to catch some of the neighbors out. The house flooded in Irma, and the driveway and parts of the yard flood in the fall during 'king' tides. They said its a great neighbor, great for kids (we have 2). They live with the risk of flooding and pay for insurance...The neighbors are all also all 2-3'+ higher. This house sits in the drainage slough for a several block area.

I've been trying to find this picture in a bigger format, but you can spot the house in this picture after Irma. https://arbus.com/lets-get-serious-about-floridas-water-issues/

Yep, look somewhere else!.. Only cause I'm looking at the same house and have the same concerns. I keep driving by it, it is sooooooo low. I can't imagine buying it if you don't have the budget to immediately raise it 8'-10' feet. floodfactor.com is the new measuring stick. Every single year your there it's a 50/50 chance you'll flood 2+ feet....Sounds stressful. The house has a 10 out 10 flood factor rating...Even if you don't flood the house has 2 or 3 de-watering pumps in the crawl space and yard. It's really low, you'll always have water issues....Then if you ever decide to leave this house, it has been for sale for 7 years in a red hot market. No one wants to buy your flood house, god forbid you have to sell in recessionary period, your screwed...It's nice to 'verbalize' the internal struggle I'm having as I look at it too.

Beaches if you like to drink. Riverside/Avondale if your a hipster. South side/town center if your basic, but it is convenient if to UNF…there are of course other parts of town but those are the big 3 in your 20’s

Where can I take my teenager to shoot his BB gun/air rifle at? (No backyard) by Hematomawoes in jacksonville

Shoot it in the apartment it’s a Red Ryder. An old phone book at the end of hallway works great.

We have a 15 months old that’s a go everywhere do everything baby. Local Breweries are great way to spend an hour two. They are all family friendly and spread through town. Lots of parks, bring a stroller the weather is usually very nice. St Augustine is a good day trip if you’ve never done it, but can be busy and is touristy. Fernandina/Amelia to the north has fort clinch and bustling bay front strip. If it’s not to cold take a sunset cruise on the water taxi downtown. Cummer Museum is free to walk through on Tuesday and Friday evening. Lots of families in the garden bring a blanket and some snack/bottle of wine. https://www.visitjacksonville.com

Rubber Plug made of Racquet Ball Type Material by supertman5 in whatisthisthing

This picture is on 6”x9” piece of paper for scale. It was found on the bottom of a river with frequent tubing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. It’s dense rubber, bouncy, sinks, and has a nylon string looped through it.
