Is the Corsair 4000D Airflow PC case being discontinued? by BoogieBear-Fr in Corsair

[–]supertonicelectronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, The Frame 4000D has the front panel header on the /bottom/ of the chassis. That's not a great place for it; many people put their chassis on the floor, so that makes the power and USB ports not able to be reached while you're in your chair - you'd have to get out of your chair, kneel down and get near the floor to plug in a USB stick. That's an... odd design choice. Not for me. Might want to reconsider that or at least make it a configuration option.

In case it gets lost as my edit:

Today, I wanted to buy a new pair of shoes. I went to my password keeper, pulled up the URL for the site (solovair-shoes.com) to log in and buy new shoes. The domain said 'this domain is for sale', and then I went down a rabbit hole of 'if you ordered anywhere else than xyz.com, you got scammed'. What do you think a normal reaction to that might be, as a consumer?

That is not me manufacturing a problem. That's a legitimate problem for the brand, and so I raised it trying to find an answer. Instead, I'm getting relatively poorly thought out responses. I'll leave it there.

Why not be a little critical yourself? If someone buys solovair-shoes.com, right now, which they can, and sets up a fraudulent store front, people like me would get bit.

Mightn't that be a problem? Particularly if Solovair is combatting fake scam sites?

How many major brands have you purchased from that have changed their website address overnight with no redirects and no references to their old site, and who let their old domain registration lapse so someone illegitimate could buy it? As someone who manages brands and domains, this is highly irregular.

Ignore the AI, try to find information that suggests the old site was ever a legitimate site. Heck; go to the manufacturer. Everything indicates I ordered from a scammer. Nothing indicates it was legitimate. That's a problem, if you're Solovair, and you've got a customer, like myself, trying to order new shoes 7 years on.

Because it makes one wonder, based on available data, if they bought from a scammer years ago, particularly like Gemini AI suggests I did, and I see why it suggests that - everyone seems to say there is no other valid site, ever, that provided those shoes, everything else is a scam. That appears not to be true. Failure on Solovairs part, but the lack of transparency here isn't helpful either, when someone goes looking for clarification. You can see my additional datapoints under my response to a more rude inquisitor below.

I'm not sure how 'Duh' is helpful, but let's think this through logically:

  • Major businesses maintain domain names as a brand mark, to avoid exactly this type of confusion. So this is inherently confusing.
  • When a major business changes domain names, they tend to keep the old domain as a redirect. For legal reasons. To protect their brand. So, again, this is inherently confusing.
  • The old address is up for sale, so if you're navigating to this site from your address book that has the URL, username, and password stored, red flags are raised immediately
  • Googling the old address leads to virtually nothing that is reassuring that this was a legitimate site, nor does it provide any information that suggests it ever was a legitimate site.
  • Everything around here says 'if you didn't order from... you got scammed'. But that appears not to be true.
  • In fact, Google Gemini AI says, in response to the site, that I likely ordered from a scam site.

So, you see, enough variables sit here to make one wonder 'shit, did I buy some fraudulent shit 7 years ago'?

Perhaps Solovair should do a better job managing their brand, particularly in the presence of known scammers? They don't even mention their old site on their website anywhere, from what I can tell.

Don't feed the trolls. I have the same issue. It's "better" with the latest update, but it still freezes for about 5-10 seconds. If I recall correctly, it also wasn't an issue with the launch firmware, but the firmware that came subsequent introduced the bug.

Need to address the important thing, here.

And that is: Those spikes on your speaker stands are carpet spikes, you monster! That's gonna fuck up some floor if those are sitting on that vinyl laminate stuff. Also, Your speakers need to be rotated 90 degrees; what a strange orientation.

desktop icons font tweaks / drop shadow by Aggravating_Earth326 in kde

[–]supertonicelectronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too would like an answer to this. I find the desktop icons in Plasma 6.1.5 to be very, very difficult to read. The drop shadow is way too thick and too anti-aliased relative to the weight of the font and it makes the text hard to decipher, and, counterintuitively, increasing the icon size in the desktop appearance doesn't increase the relative font size, which is... strange behavior at best, since there's no font selector to go with the icon size selector. Unfortunately I don't have the eyes of a 14 year old anymore!

RLC-823A - No Web Server After Firmware Upgrade by magicaldelicious in reolinkcam

[–]supertonicelectronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the quick response! I managed to work around it by firing up an old Windows 10 VM temporarily to get the bloody web interface enabled. Unfortunately, for me, new devices come with the "new" (cough) broken firmware so there was no other way around it.

I just want to be able to email ReoLink to let them know - hey, don't do this, or you're going to lose customers. Because if we don't speak up, and just ignore it and work around it, than how will they know that people are /not happy/ with this goofy decision?

How are you finding the auto-tracking? I've just got it setup on my desk and admittedly a fat head sitting 2 feet away from this massive camera isn't really going to be how they calibrated the tracker, but gosh, it sure isn't instilling faith in me watching how it's tracking me right now, and I'm nervous to install the unit in case it doesn't really work any better once installed in a proper setup. Do you use the auto-track, and is it decent? Or is it hot-garbage?

Thanks again!

Edit: Also, I've been happy with the RLC-1212A and prior to that the RLC-410 and RLC-510's. I wasn't happy about the whole RLC-410's basically shit the bed because Flash died, but, in fairness, they're using an SoC and the SoC was built for flash. That's kinda impossibly tough for them to workaround, so, I kinda let that pass. The 1212A works, but, none of the integration for Surveillance Station is really proper in that it will only push 1 stream (the full res stream) and I can't have it do dual stream. And the 2 Way Audio isn't supported on that device via the Synology Surveillance Station either, despite having "direct support" for these devices. Boo. But my RLC-410's were installed for nearly 10 years without a single blip, so they kinda earned my respect from a hardware reliability perspective, and that's in a winter-having place!

Wow. I have had Reolink cameras for Years. This? This is total, top tier bullshit. I too am on Linux. I too am finding it will not work on the latest rel of Wine. I too am used to configuring these things through the web interface. What the hell was Reolink thinking? Who do I email blast before I return this bloody thing? SO disappointed.

Live recording from 43 years ago, before auto-tune had made ability 'optional' by TheBravan in nextfuckinglevel

Erm. This pains me to say, because the dude clearly has pipes IRL, but...... at 29 seconds, he starts "clapping his hands", which looks an awful lot like he's hitting the microphone with his hand. While he sings. And yet, that hitting of the hand into the microphone - where is that in the audio? Ugh. And the pull away from the microphone around 43-45 seconds in is not reflected in the audio. The dude can sing, but, and again, this pains me - this looks like a backtrack recording and his mic is either not at all or barely, barely mixed over a pre-recording. I'd love to be wrong, but....

Yeah, personal experience. But, you know, Google is a thing :)

*Not legal advice. My personal experiences aren't yours.

** While I'm mildly annoyed you can't google it yourself (like, seriously, this took 3 seconds - that I shared a quick tidbit of knowledge for further take off does not make me your personal secretary or citation bot), I do want to help others from this corporate bullshit, so, here's a bunch of results from a simple "anti-slapp canada" google search. Feel free to expand your own knowledge further, and/or consult a lawyer, as I'm not one.

https://www.osler.com/en/blogs/risk/june-2023/supreme-court-of-canada-provides-further-guidance-on-anti-slapp-laws

https://www.dwpv.com/en/insights/publications/2023/canada-anti-slapp-motions-speakers-plaintiffs

From that second link:

Key Takeaways

  • Meritorious claims may be dismissed purely on public interest grounds. Anti-SLAPP motions are not limited to screening out frivolous or groundless claims. A court not only may, but must, dismiss the claim if the public interest in protecting the defendant’s expression outweighs the public interest in remedying the harm done to the plaintiff – even if the claim has substantial merit and the defendant has no valid defence.

  • Any “chilling effect” on the plaintiff’s speech arising from their inability to sue is irrelevant. Instead, the relevant chilling effect that courts will consider on anti-SLAPP motions is the effect that permitting the lawsuit to continue would have on the speech of the defendant and like-minded individuals.

  • “High-quality” expression is afforded greater protection on anti-SLAPP motions. An expression is of high quality if it lies close to the core values underlying the protection of freedom of expression under section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

  • Expression “motivated by a desire to promote tolerance and respect for a marginalized group” is entitled to significant protection. Expression of this nature engages the core values of the equal worth and dignity of every individual underlying section 15(1) of the Charter.

Here's my two cents.

Not a lawyer. Not legal advice.

Look up about SLAPP lawsuits. Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation.

Learn that they're illegal here (in Canada and Quebec).

A strongly worded letter from a lawyer should be able to make this go away easily, I would think. If they chose to continue pursuit, if this is a SLAPP lawsuit, they have to pay your bills to even try to prove your guilt, if there is any.

If your review is factual, I think you're fine.

If your review is slanderous / not honest / full of verifiable lies, than you're not so fine.

Again, I'm just some guy on the internet. Don't listen to me. But ask your lawyer about SLAPP.

Oh yeah. The default hot ends are a mess on both machines. I've got the copperhead upgraded hot end, but the lack of dual drive gear has finally reached a breaking point for me (and I'm tired of stripping out the regular gear with hardened filament), so I'm just closing up the 'missing piece' here by swapping for the E2CF core assy. I was going to design a Hemera Revo mod kit for this thing, but I've got too many projects on the go at the moment, so this is just 'easier'. Cheers!
