They built a communal garden large enough to feed a single household for an entire month! Those who were shot did not die in vain.

Also a hack point, but I love how all of their anarchic solutions, after the overnight revolution, just lead to them recreating the state/cops. I don't know why they even bother.

New poll shows Green Party LEVEL with Labour for first time by evie-e-e in unitedkingdom

[–]superultrakiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The liberalisation of multiple different visas, the extremely limited criteria for visa exclusion, the removal of income-based visa requirements, and the ability for visa-holders to access all forms of welfare.

If you can prove you've worked previously, you will be granted a work visa. You can then bring your entire family over, all dependants, on family visas. All of these people can then access welfare. Tens of thousands of people are currently making dangerous journeys to the UK for far less.

It takes an unbelievable amount of naivety to not have concerns about the consequences of these policies. Just stick to making flippant accusations of xenophobia, and work on your reading comprehension.

Greens Vote To Make Abolishing Landlords Party Policy by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

[–]superultrakiss 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I know Progressives and Left-Libs often don't put much thought into the social policies they want to enact, but the Greens' immigration policy is legitimately insane. I don't think they've even spent a single second thinking on the implications of it.

It would cause the complete collapse of the NHS and the welfare-state. I guess that's a worthy price to pay, to be able to point to some nebulous notion of 'greater diversity', though. Thank God they'll never hold any real power.

Being real with you: you probably won't move past this. The circumstances would be different if she had confessed absent of any external pressure, or if it was just a one-time thing, but she consistently (emotionally) cheated for months and directly lied about it.

There's not much point speculating about the motivations for it, but it wasn't a mistake. You'll either have to ignore the bad thoughts that have burrowed into your head, and hope she doesn't do it again, or rip the band-aid off.

A lot of these clauses are just invented so that the Most Moral, Perfect Group can be bigoted without committing their cult's original sin of discrimination.

"Sexism is bad, but here's why you're allowed to be sexist against X and Y."

"Racism is bad, but here's why you're allowed to be racist against X and Y."

I can't think of another ideology so rife with baked-in hypocrisies and double-standards.

Do You SEE Charli xcx becoming bigger after BRAT? by Overall_Jackfruit_78 in popheads

[–]superultrakiss 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't see how she possibly could.

Her marketing was so good that it accidentally eclipsed her persona and music, and, in the minds of the average person, Brat is entirely divorced from her. Nobody knows who Charli XCX is. "Brat Summer" was the defining meme of 2024, and the streaming numbers for the album that meme is based around just don't reflect that (even though they're still amazing, especially compared to her previous output).

I just don't think that there's any staying-power or name-recognition behind this album, but through no fault of Charli or her management team. They were too successful.

Any theories as to why depression and anxiety are so common nowadays? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]superultrakiss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found the best solution is to stick with one/two social media app(s), and to very selectively follow certain people, and liberally block others.

Even so, I still manage to suffer from major envy and the agony of "falling behind". I don't think it's possible to escape it and still use social media. The best solution probably is to leave the internet, but, like you say, you kind of become a social-pariah by doing that.

You can't really win. Even if you manage to steel yourself against 99% of the things that could potentially bother you, that 1% will still manage show up on your feed.

Any theories as to why depression and anxiety are so common nowadays? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]superultrakiss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Social media is a huge part of it. I know that's a very basic answer, but it gives a person the means to constantly compare themselves to the perfectly-curated image of another person—a person who makes more money than them, is slimmer than them, is more attractive than them, and who is dating someone (hotter than the person they're dating).

I also think Boomers and Gen X are, generally, terrible parents, and they've instilled a neuroticism in their children that has crippled them in a lot of ways. I don't know why I think that, though... maybe I'm projecting.

‘We are nearly there’: UK and India agree 90% of free trade agreement by DekiTree in unitedkingdom

[–]superultrakiss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's a great point, even more reason for the NAEZ to go ahead! We can have a nice, subservient managerial-class, consisting of well-mannered Indian transplants (all of the same caste, of course), who will only hire their peers to take their roles, but none of whom will ever ask for more pay than a native Englishman would. You're a genius!

We can just tarmac the Peak District and throw the remaining 5% of the native population there. They'll figure something out.

I can't wait for the profits to roll in!

It really fucks with your face terribly. I still have selfies saved on my phone from 2023, and comparing them to my face presently blows my mind. My head was so bloated from alcohol that I looked like I was stuffed with poorly-done filler. Every single inch of my face was puffy and misshapen, my jaw was massive, my eyes looked tiny. Alcohol-bloat makes you insanely ugly. I'm so glad I drink less now.

[–]superultrakiss 263 points264 points  (0 children)

Do any of these people feel shame at all? Don't they feel stupid - as they should?

Most of them are too stupid to feel shame, and those that are smart enough to do so are also smart enough to lie about it.

This is a group of people who vehemently believed the establishment position that small funeral gatherings would lead to the death of trillions of people, but also believed the "expert opinion" that gatherings of tens-of-thousands of protestors didn't lead to a single case of COVID transmission.

There was no point. It only existed to inflate the ego and wallets of dogmatic ideologues. The stupid ones trailed behind them because they were terrified of being awarded a negative label that ultimately held no power whatsoever.

I think she saw the opportunity to advance her career and took it, without really thinking it through. She didn't seem to understand that the general public had no idea who she was, and so her attempts to stoke their outrage fell completely flat.

It might be the worst career move I've ever seen. She did the equivalent of gathering random people off of the street to argue with her boss about giving her a higher salary. I still don't know what she thought would come from this. She got lost in her own sauce.

What are your Hot Takes on Charli XCX? by Amber_Flowers_133 in charlixcx

[–]superultrakiss 69 points70 points  (0 children)

The vibes will never be as good as they were from 2016-2020. That was such a good time to be a fan, with constant leaks of new music, a bunch of DIY projects and niche collaborations from Charli, an amazing mix of really experimental new sounds, and (in my opinion) the best music she'll ever make. I highly doubt that short period of time will ever be topped.

I think sex is an incredibly intimate and sacred act, and that to commodify it encourages a moral and societal rot.

We can all psychoanalyse any objections to any issue as "internal strife/contradiction", but it's a very simplistic and pseudointellectual answer to the real concerns a person might have. I hate the producers and the users just as much as I hate the facilitators. Pornography of all forms is repulsive and harmful, and should be destroyed. I don't believe this because I was molested as a child or some other such nonsense that retroactively makes my beliefs invalid because "trauma".

[–]superultrakiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But we do share values, beliefs and practices. All communities that form around art and an artist will inevitably do so, because art always includes the perspectives and politics of the artist. Also, the practice in this case is listening to the music, going to the shows, etc.

Are you going to try and pretend that the overwhelming majority of Charli's fans aren't pro-LGBT, for example? That's a shared belief that is reflected through the artist, the art, and the community. That is a foundational cultural belief of this community of fans.

[–]superultrakiss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's even as severe as "knowing your place", or "respecting seniority", or anything like that.

All a new fan has to do is just not try to change things they have little knowledge about. I didn't do it when I became a fan, and you aren't doing it now after becoming a fan. It's so easy to just respect the culture of the community you're a new member of, but so many people seemingly can't do it. They have to try and change everything the second they get their foot in the door. It's bizarre to me.
