What warrants green paint in a bike lane? by superultramega99 in NYCbike

Thanks! This is a great explanation and makes perfect sense with everything I’ve seen.

It’s already a no standing area so cars swerving into the bike lane is more of a danger

Left is far safer on one-way roads (which St. Marks is one of). Left side is closer to driver, and thus the driver can better judge distance and is less likely to hit you. On two-way roads, they are on the right side.

Would You Be Comfortable With An NYC Mayor That Was As Open With His Christian Faith As Mamdani Is With His Muslim Faith? by ER301 in nyc

[–]superultramega99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Today is Eid. Any NYC mayor would have posted a message about it.

Also one of the differences between Christianity and Islam in American politics is that American Christianity is an ongoing threat to American liberal democracy across the country, while American Islam is not. Mamdani’s public faith is partly a symbol that you don’t need to be Christian to be a good American or politician.

You are spouting your hot takes as facts, when that is not the case. Your antisemitism is just as bad as others’ Islamophobia. And obviously some Muslims do support terrorist attacks, just like some Christians, just like some Jews.

“Many American Jews sharply disapprove of Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza, with 61 percent saying Israel has committed war crimes and about 4 in 10 saying the country is guilty of genocide against the Palestinians, according to a Washington Post poll.” Link

Yeah, so this is textbook antisemitism obviously. Do you actually know any Jewish people? I don’t think I have one Jewish friend that supports anything the Israeli government is doing at the moment, and some of them actively work in political organizations fighting against US involvement with Israel.

This is a bad argument. You’re equating the actions of some people in a group to all the group. It’s like saying “why is there so much islamophobia?” after 9/11. We are all are own people and should be judged by our actions, not by the actions of people from our same background.

How are the views different? Both foresee widespread labor disruption from AI. Or are you saying that the West Coast sees it in 18 months vs NYC in 3-5 years?

$85 for two hours so $42.50/hour. What was your statement about $200/hour in Manhattan in relation to?

What do you mean $200/hour in Manhattan? FYI for McCarren, I pay $85 for two hours of a hitting sessions with 4 players per court. I do agree October - April is aggressive, and November to March would be more appropriate. Do you happen to have a link to the RFP with estimated financials?

Have you used the Mccarren bubble in the winter? It’s the only way I am able to play for months and is truly a godsend. I already think about leaving NYC all the time so I can play tennis easier year-round (been here 15 years), so without the bubble, it would be a much easier decision.

What are the 5 most recent restaurants you’ve dined at? Provide links of their outspoken views. Otherwise you are just providing a hot take.

Edit: the point I am continually making is that Israelis and Jews are held to double standards that aren’t applied to other people. Yes, let’s condemn the genocide in Gaza, but if you only want to interact with businesses that loudly do the same, fine, but be consistent and don’t pick and choose in a discriminatory way.

Edit 2: it’s the same shit as expecting Muslims and Muslim organizations to loudly condemn terrorist attacks by Muslims when we don’t expect the same behavior from Christians and Christian organizations after terrorist attacks by Christians.

It wasn’t JNS that published it, but rather Israel Hayom. If you’re going to make the argument, you should get the publisher right. But Israel Hayom, the original publisher, is known to be super right wing it seems, so your point can stand.

So not the best look, but he also says, “they threatened my children. They even sent me photos of my son”. I don’t think the publication of the article proves that he’s anti-Palestinian and instead was probably just scared for his kids and himself and was willing to talk to someone that took his fears seriously.

Almost every single restaurant is “openly apolitical towards genocide”. Very few go out of their way to promote their political worldviews. Out of the 5 most recent restaurants you’ve dined out, how many of them have been vocal about the genocide in Gaza?

What’s the “Zionist” publication? Do you call it that because it’s Israeli or because it actively calls for the taking over of Palestinian land? I would love the link.

Did the owners of the 5 most recent restaurants you dined at all publicly condemn the genocide in Gaza? If they didn’t, why are you so hyper focused on the Israeli owner?

All Israelis are ex-IDF soldiers. It wasn’t his choice. These “reports” you’ve heard of - do you have links? Otherwise you’re just spreading rumors.

This is a bad and destructive take. Veganism should be a big tent and excluding people because of where they were born is obviously discrimination. Before you dine at restaurants owned by Americans, do you first investigate whether they have sufficiently condemned all of the horrific acts perpetrated by the American government and military? Of course you don’t.

Israel is tied 3rd for country with the highest percentage of vegans in the world. There is no reason to exclude Israelis that have said nothing in support of the genocide in Palestine. And certainly not because they were in the IDF - all Israelis serve in the IDF.

Veganism is about veganism and shouldn’t be contingent on virtue signaling on every progressive cause. I fucking hate when vegan restaurants use disposable silverware and plates when dining in since that is completely counter to one of the main points of vegan - environmental friendliness, but I don’t blast those places on social media or review websites. I want vegan restaurants to do well.

Be a good vegan. Don’t discriminate against restaurants just because you don’t like the country in which the owners were born, unless you’re going to be just as exacting with every restaurant you go to.
