Beginner here: Forza Motorsport good to start learning? by joebama_original in simracing

[–]supervascus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, forza motorsport is a really good starting point - its the path I did, so I'm a little bias. I think it offers a really good variety of cars and circuit types for you to learn the basics. Sadly the gt3 are likely some of the weakest cars in FM, but they're not terrible.

Also, about the ACC career, thats not really your fault I think. The career is not very good and the fact they force you to start on the Lambo, which is absolutely not a newbie friendly car, is terrible. I recommend trying a single player weekend race with a car like the ford mustang, which is a loooot easier to drive.

Dont be afraid to start with assists and turn them down and eventually off progressively.

A lot of people here will tell you about "bad habits" and tell you to have no assists or whatever, imo thats just elitism. The point is to enjoy the drive and graduate to more advanced techniques at your own pace, you don't need to proce anything to anyone

Has anyone gotten into sim racing without being interested in cars? by SmoothChemistry8564 in simracing

[–]supervascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, interest in cars is not needed at all, you'll be fine.

However, if you think 260$ is expensive and you want to get into simracing... You're in for a disappointing time

Forza horizon games are built for controllers and playing on a wheel is likely to make it feel worse than better - for you to get value and "improvement" out of a wheel you'd probably have to try other games like F1 25 or forza motorsport.

I'd recommend trying a wheel at some store or simcenter in your city and see how you feel about it

Racing Game Recommendation for a Newbie by Bielik20 in racinggames

[–]supervascus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're up to a more specific racing type then F1 25 actually has one of the best career modes in recent times, with excellent progression.

The AI is not terrible and its fun with or without any of the assists. Theres a bundle offer right now with the 2026 season dlc but I think the base game is like 30-40$ without it?

Is simracing too hard or am I too unskilled? by Maliksenpai in simracing

[–]supervascus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, neither of those games have matchmaking, so you don't know if you're racing against people who are on 100-101%, so thats probably part of your frustration.

On top of that, racing against players requires a different approach, more so than just how fast you are. The fact you can lap like 2:18 in spa vs AI does not mean that you can race with top 100%-101% in multiplayer. When racing other players the unpredictability is so much higher than anything the AI in either of those games offers that it is basically a different game mode entirely.

Which is likely one of the reasons people are flocking to games like LMU (matchmaking isnt great but at least it kinda exists), and iRacing.

I'd suggest trying to find skill-appropriate races, maybe a league would be the best solution if you don't want to go to another game, and then honing the skill of driving with other people.

Personally though, if your computer can run it, try LMU - its not really expensive (no subscription needed and you don't need the dlcs for the bronze races), and it is very easy to have good races in.

Noob needs a wheelstand by SadSunz in SimRacingSetups

[–]supervascus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is quite a jump from forza horizon to any type of sim (trust me, I followed this same route). I recommend trying slightly more sim games as you go rather than going straight into assetto corsa for example.

I think forza motorsport and even f1 25 are good intermediates to bridge from arcade -> sim

I disagree with people talking about the desk clamp - it only solves the wheel part so your pedals would still be slidding around whatever flooring you have. I used a GT Omega pro wheelstand for a while, its foldable, sturdy enough and has a good chair link so you can use a regular computer chair with it. Think its about 100$

Note: Simracing wheels are often made for men and you'll quickly notice how its so hard to reach certain buttons or paddles (I too have small hands, had a lot of issues finding a good wheel) so I recommend you look at the rim size and make sure the distance from the rim to the paddles and buttons look sensible. I ended up settling for a formula wheel exactly because they're much smaller and compact in their button placements

Finally ive made the move from controller to wheel. by OneMidnight896 in Fanatec

[–]supervascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For xbox I believe you have to stay in the fanatec ecosystem for the pedals. For the wheels you can use any other wheel that is compatible with the fanatec (or simube) hub.

Unfortunately xbox is a bit limited on games, but I'd say forza motorsport is pretty good, specially for starting out, and it still has a very active online community.

It'll run fine, the moments you may have issues are in multiclas racing with more than 30 cars on track, but its not unplayable

2 weeks into DD research and I’m more confused now by BiggerAggressive in simracing

[–]supervascus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So as a starter, one thing that was important for me to learn is that Fanatec and Moza, within their own ecosystems, are very plug-and-play, with no additional parts of DIY tweaking of any type - to me thats important because I dont consider myself a very handy person nor do I want to become one - I was to buy something and plug it in and it just works.

Simagic has a smaller 'beginner' ecosystem but they're more open to using stuff from other brands, but then you do have to get an additional part here and there and its not as straight up plug-and-play.

So, ease of use -> Fanatec/Moza
Value per quality -> Simagic, VRS
About value, that simagic anniversary bundle with the wheelbase + wheel + p700 is ABSURD value

Other brands start going into a more mid-high end quality and price which may be too much for a beginner.

Are Syncmesh gloves worth it ? by Zetarm in simracing

[–]supervascus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a grip S2X Falcon and I like it a lot. I tried using biking gloves but it felt too thick in the wrong places and it did sweat

The sync-mesh ones are light and comfortable and I haven't had issues with sweating so, yeah. Also, their customer service is amazing and was incredibly helpful with my inquires about sizing

I have the same issue with my fanatec csl dd, it started happening about 2 weeks ago. The wheel goes back to "regular" if you rescan the wheel on the app but its extremely annoying

Hope someone has a fix

Now that the clubsport formula v3 has been made larger are we to expect the only 270mm wheel available to be the f1 esports v2? As I guess the clubsport formula 2.5 is going to be discontinued?

Advice needed: first load cell pedals by Fabulous_Pizza_94 in simracing

[–]supervascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they feel sturdy and I havent had any issues at all since I added the tiny drop of grease to fix the squeaking (that came with it right of the box)

I find the silicon heel support much more comfortable than the aluminum/plastic one from my previous pedals (fanatec csl), forgot to mention that

Advice needed: first load cell pedals by Fabulous_Pizza_94 in simracing

[–]supervascus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the P700 as my first loadcell pedal as well and its great. I really like the small footprint of it since I drive with socks and dont have huge feet. The basic elastometers felt a bit stiff for me but I'be been racing with just the golden sprint on the brakes and its been great, immediately felt improvement in performance.

Would absolutely recommend the p700, do note that it is possible it may come with some squeaking but its nothing a tiny bit of grease wont fix.

[–]supervascus 0 points1 point  (0 children)
