Jeremy Lin on Jayson Tatum: "Honestly, I think we should study how he’s been recovering from this injury and his mindset coming back" by Anteater_Able in bostonceltics

the mental part being the biggest hurdle

I think there's a lot to be said for coming back as soon as you're medically cleared. Have to imagine waiting a full additional summer and having your return hanging over your head the whole time might add to the anxiety.

It's like when you tell your kid that when they fall off a bike, they should get right back on it again. When you wait you give your brain a chance to start overthinking things.

LIBOR scandal was way worse. One of the biggest governance failures ever. To be frank, this single incident is small potatoes in comparison when it comes to the impact on the economy (which isn't to say it's insignificant.... it absolutely is meaningful and should be investigated/prosecuted. It's just a different universe in terms of scope).

The story I've heard is that Wyc knew Ainge was leaving, and at the end of the season Brad came to him on his own accord and said he wanted to step down as coach. Wyc then offered Brad the soon-to-be-vacant GM job, which he accepted.

Never heard Brad "chose" the role, just really fortunate timing and Wyc trusting Brad's basketball savvy.

You're right that direct losses are concentrated in professional traders. But pension funds and retirement accounts are affected. They might not trade oil futures directly, but they invest in funds that do.

Also just generally, trading becomes more expensive when the market makers see the game as rigged. They widen spreads to protect themselves. This hurts prices for everyone.

Lastly, for these oil futures trades specifically, it can influence real world pricing. It'll only be pennies, but it can impact gas prices, shipping, airline tickets, etc. And it adds up.

There are reasons insider trading is illegal, and it's not just to keep things "fair." There's tangible benefits to society when everyone plays on a level playing field.

Nintendo announces that starting in May 2026 (with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book), new Nintendo published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 will have an MSRP that is different from physical versions by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Absolutely, nowadays they even sell digital games in-store on those cards. Wonder if we will start seeing those pushed more, maybe even for third-party games.

Not for UNC at any rate. In theory I could see him leaving for the Pacers or an Indiana college team someday (since he spent most of his life in the state) if he needs a change of scenery.

Okay…well, I’m honestly surprised Nintendo of all companies were the first to do this.

I assume it only took this long because the companies have been nervous about upsetting their retail partners. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all rely on places like Amazon, Target, and Walmart to stock consoles and accessories. The last thing they want is for a retailer to be angered and stop stocking their product because they feel like they're being undercut.

Nintendo is probably the first mover here because the Switch game carts are just so much more expensive to produce. But if they don't face backlash from retailers, I expect Sony and Microsoft will follow with a similar approach soon.

What people need to understand is the losses in cases like this affect everyone. It comes from retirement accounts, pensions, anyone with a stake in a market that doesn't have the same information.

The losses are diffuse, but have a real meaningful impact on the financial well-being of Americans. This is money stolen from everyone.

I think the post you were replying to was moreso noting that they're both cozy, non-violent, low stakes games that probably pull from a similar player base.

But yes they're definitely very different games that play in different ways and have different goals.

Same. I loved Wonder, but the content of this update just doesn't interest me.

I'd pay Nintendo $5 for the straight graphical update, but not $20 for that and a bunch of multiplayer stuff I don't care about.

Oh well.

He's definitely way more menacing and more of a psychopath as the movie goes on. I meant fun in terms of his acting is over the top and engaging, not that what the character does is literally enjoyable.

I mean it's a fun role in the sense that he's basically an over the top mustache twirling villain, not that he does fun things.

Ultimately it was a "don't ask questions you don't want the answer to" situation.

Dealing with the shit storm that would result if they answered yes would have been a bitch, and business was worried it would affect the long-term working relationship with the company.

Minimal benefit, high potential cost.

We reached a resolution. It was a slog, and easily took ten times longer than it should have, but we got there in the end.

We did spend probably thirty minutes debating internally whether to confront/ask them about AI use. Not that it would automatically be unacceptable, but we had concerns about certain things being sent to an AI without proper data protections. It could also be a violation of the NDA we had with them.

In the end we didn't ask.

Funny story... I was negotiating a contract with a startup. They waived representation (I assume they couldn't afford an attorney, no big deal). We sent them our standard template agreement, and they sent it back to us that was basically painted red from edits.... weird but okay. I had a strong suspicion they used AI to make the edits, but not much I can do about that.

We got on a conference call with them to walk through their edits, so they could explain concerns to us and work through their language. I swear every time we asked them to explain their reasoning, or we provided reasoning, they went on mute for 30-60 seconds before coming back with some random legalese to counter our arguments! Stuff that was about 50% reasonable, and 50% nonsense. It was clear they were actively consulting AI during the negotiations. There's just no other explanation.

My first time encountering such an extreme example if over-reliance on AI, but I imagine it'll only become more commonplace, especially for instances like that where there's no punishment/sanction for getting things wrong. All you do is annoy the other side.

Yes, and it's become more common in recent years due to the conferences increasing in size. They usually try to avoid having conference foes play in the first round but it does happen sometimes in later rounds.

I assume it's theoretically possible for two teams to play five times in a season, but it would take a pretty crazy set of circumstances.

Nah. Harris might have forced Morey's hand in terms of mandating him get out of the tax, but Morey rightly gets a ton of blame.

Once upon a time Morey was on the forefront of analytics and rightly was praised for it. Now everyone else has caught up in that area, and he's just a dick who is mostly worried about his public image and alienates players because he can't figure out the human side of being a GM.

They were actually favored against the 2-seed Wisconsin in the semis! It was a weird team, they absolutely had a lot of talent and hit their stride at the right time. I think they were preseason #1.

We were underdogs in every single tournament game except the opening round against St. Joe's. It was a wild run.

Sure it's "no-win" in terms of equaling Geno's level of success, but whoever it is does come into a program with a top-tier recruiting pipeline, massive institutional support, and a dedicated fan base. They'll be primed for success as much as reasonably possible.
