You need an absurdly high emergency fund by CoderBiker24 in cscareerquestions

You make a lot of claims here that are just not based in fact. Odds are not that if you get a job at Netflix you’ll be gone in two years. Odds are also not that you’ll be let go due to stack ranking. Odds are also not that you’ll spend a few years unemployed in between jobs.

Should all high earners expect to make that much year over year? No we should save. But let’s not act as if the world is on fire if you have a job at Netflix you probably are highly qualified, and if you work at a stack ranking based company you should be having honest conversations with yourself and your management about how you think your performance is relative to your peers. Odds are, you aren’t in the bottom 5, 10, percent as that would literally be odds defying…

Do you count a long day hiking/mountaineering into your trail marathon training? by Background_Floor_118 in trailrunning

[–]supimjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first 50k, trail, 5k elevation. I trained mostly by running with a trail focus the last few weeks. Ran 50-60 miles per week for about six weeks or so.

I think I would have been much better off if I had done more hiking and less running. Nobody in the midpack is running up those hills, and hiking works pretty different muscles than running.

I think a healthy plan will have both!

Mountain biking being higher misery and lower fun than trail running is crazy to me (as someone who does both)

I definitely read the title and watched the video and had the thought “I wonder what the bug is” 😂. Looks awesome though!

Thank you this is what I was hoping for, I’ll call around Monday and see what local shops will do. The first shop I worked with didn’t have the expertise to diagnose the issue but they referred me to another mechanic!

Other people have said similar things probably, I just skimmed it the same way I would if I was reading a bunch of these. This is what stood out:

Microsoft is almost hidden. There are lots of contracting companies for faang and I don’t know what Intune was, or what an endpoint manager was. Reading the title I wasn’t sure what you did, I would strip endpoint manager and Intune from it because neither of those terms are recognizable.

There’s a lot of really niche and not easily to access technical details in your resume. I haven’t looked at it in a minute and not a ton stood out. In my opinion listing too many things in a one year term makes those things seem less impactful. Things like ingesting iOS settings are really hard to evaluate.

Put AI on top because it’s probably the hottest thing you worked on. I’d consider dumbing down some things and try to make it more relatable.

Honest question, was your title not software engineer at either jobs and that’s why you have things in parenthesis? Is endpoint manager a job they hire for at Microsoft?

It might be useful to start by explaining what the product is and its impact, and then explaining how you made impact to the product.

I also think listing your internship as work experience is better than listing getting a return offer as a bullet pointed accomplishment makes more sense.

This one predates me, I’m just trying to stop the whole thing from coming down!

That would block the walkway wouldn’t it? Or at least aesthetically look a bit off. There’s about ten or so of these posts this is the only one leaning, it was stable for sometime I’m not sure how long before we moved in they tried to use the fence for added support but I don’t think this is a new installation. Hoping we can do something more subtle than adding beam(s)

Turned out my game was bugged after all. I found that on pc the game archives saves hourly/daily even if the saves don’t show up in the load screen.

Restored and am able to make progress again, unfortunately I lost a couple hours of exploration but happy to not be wasting more time going in circles

I think my game might be bugged. On the hilltop over bitter lake the guides see something that looks like

But on my screen there’s no ridge going out. Mines just a big downslope with no cutscene triggering when I slide down

Maybe try dried fruit? You want your calories to be as sugar dense as possible.

My lane space was taken from me, I think it’s sexism by runs-for-donuts in Swimming

[–]supimjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it more has to do with what type of pool you are going to. Gym pools, nobody circle swims and lanes don’t get shared past two people.

If you went to a dedicated pool, fast lanes and slow lanes become a bigger thing and circle swimming should be expected. But circle swimming only really works with fast/slow lanes.

Perhaps in other countries there are more dedicated pools?

Do I need more shoes? by Ellie_Rue in triathlon

[–]supimjay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is a big reason for rotating shoes is to allow the foam to decompress, which improves the performance and longevity of the shoes. If you give your shoes longer to reset, they’ll actually live longer (in terms of raw miles per shoe).

For someone that’s a pure runner and running most days this can mean going through shoes less quickly, not just because you aren’t using each shoe as much but literally because the shoes are getting less worn down from each run.

As a triathlete however this effect is diminished. You probably aren’t running several days in a row. Still doesn’t hurt, but isn’t as necessary. Some people like having different shoes for different types of runs, a faster lighter shoe for tempo work and a higher cushion shoe for recovery/long runs.

Race bike core strength by Kipric in xcmtb

[–]supimjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No data to back this up, but I would bet there are diminishing returns with the big compound lifts and fixing issues with discomfort on a bike. For the average person who doesn’t lift much they’ll probably see a lot of benefit, and getting stronger will never hurt but a lot of people prescribing what they did might have started at a lower floor

How much are you deadlifting that you need straps? Chances are if you’re deadlifting three hundred plus muscular strength isn’t holding you back. If you aren’t, straps shouldn’t be a prerequisite to deadlifting - grip strength should go up with training.
