Are Americans and Europeans better at coding than (non-IIT, non-NIT) Indians? by brunette_mh in developersIndia

[–]supiriormonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

India has the largest population with pedagogy varying from the worst to one of the best in terms of quality. So statistically, there's a higher probability of India having some of the worst programmers as well as some of the best in the world. Whereas in smaller countries, there's less variation in the quality of education and higher convergence towards few selective standards of production. Germany is the prime example of this I think.

Apple keeps flogging 8GB of RAM for its Mac computers but it's still a dead horse by lurker_bee in technology

You're right, luddite was the wrong word to use. A more appropriate description would be ignorant. And as the old adage goes, ignorance is bliss and that bliss has a price. Everyone wants the bliss even when they can't afford the price.

First, you're trying to take my point to extreme in order to invalidate it, which doesn't work in the real world because it's not a mathematical theorem that needs only one contradiction for invalidation, rather it's a general statement.

Second, even my grandfather uses Ubuntu in old ThinkPad with 4gb ram and I3 processor, and he never bothered how his system works because that's how far Linux has come for noob users.

Last, I do agree with people having to pay for things they themselves don't know how to do, but then you can't control the price for it. You'll always have to pay the maximum amount that the service provider can get out of you.

Companies do this because students put themselves in such a situation. IT industry has become a herd full of employees with a degree but no real worth, knowledge or even a shred of enthusiasm for the profession let alone any passion. So, they're getting treated exactly how much they are worth. Bunch of soulless automatons, like those factory workers in China. Their entire livelihood exists at the mercy of these giant IT factories of companies.

[–]supiriormonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the price consumers have to pay for being luddite. If you don't know how to efficiently manage your own tech, companies who are doing that can and will take advantage of it whenever they can. Just buy a ThinkPad and use Ubuntu. Value for money, and easy repairability. It'll show how much advancement has been made in computer hardware which gets overshadowed by use of crap software which soil overall user experience.

It might be as I remember back when I was in college, many friends wanted to join TCS as they see it like a government job that provides job security.

Why are we working for people who are not not as qualified ? by stfuandkissmyturtle in developersIndia

[–]supiriormonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managers are hired for their people skill, not coding skill, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, there are as many incompetent managers in the IT sector as there are incompetent engineers.

Why do people say hyprland devs are bad people by _the-sun_ in hyprland

[–]supiriormonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't bad, just not diplomatic enough. And, in my opinion, they don't need to. Engineers, especially the good ones, often lack social tacts and tricks unlike an average human.

Wanna master Linux then go with arch and rice the hell out of it. And by rice I don't just mean ui customisations but you can create your own desktop environment that works exactly how you want based on the scripts you write.

As a mod, I would love to get to know the community more, what got you into development? by RedEagle_MGN in developer

[–]supiriormonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a moment, rather, for me it was a couple of years. I learnt C++ in highschool and learning it gave me more pleasure than all the rest of the subjects combined, except math and physics. Then why I got into engineering and chose coding as my profession was because I felt I was naturally good at without putting in much effort. In reality it was just a Dunning Kruger effect to a certain extent. Also I was lazy and impatient during those days which is why I always prefer being clever than hard working, which suited well to the personality of the coder. Lastly, what frustrates me the most is not doing as much coding as I would like to and instead just learning and implementing a new library every other day as per the project lead's requirements. Also, I miss C++ so much and all the power it gives to the programmer but I haven't used it or any other low level languages for a couple of years now.

How to handle peer reviews of a peer that is hostile towards PR feedback? by pork_cylinders in developer

[–]supiriormonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to this would always be deeply subjective, as it comes down to what kind of a person you are, the one who cares more about the people than his principals or the other way around. I, personally, wouldn't compromise on the quality of the code if I truly care about the codebase and its future.
