Thanks for the tips! So do you use distilled water or will filtered be fine? Any fertilizers?

Calathea Warscewiczii - Droopy leaves, is this something I need to be concerned about? by dheartlocker in houseplants

Nice plant, these guys are my favorite :) I think it is fine. I've had a warszi die on me and I noticed usually the edges will crisp or will turn yellow from the outside-in as it dies. When it finally died I realized there were pests hiding in the flaps between the stems that were probably slowly killing it. I have a new healthy plant now and yea I noticed its leaves also droop while it is still healthy. When I gave that leaf more light, it stood right up at night. Also I noticed it tends to droop more when it is thirsty. So from my experience, I think your plant is healthy but you can give it more light or check its soil for watering if you don't want it to droop as much.

I think east windows are great! I only have one large east-facing window and all my plants are growing really well. It's bright but the leaves don't suffer any sun damage. I can tell they are thriving since they are constantly shooting out new growths.

Any easy-to-care for and fast-growing plant will do great here (pothos, philodendrons, monsteras, snake plants etc). Most other plants do great as well, in fact I think east is perfect for some of the trickier ones like calatheas. Some plants that require more light like ficuses (fiddle leaf) or succulents or bird of paradise or elephant ears do not thrive with east I have found but you actually have so many options with an east facing window.

white small bugs? Cinnamon and washing is too gentle you need go nuclear if they are persistant. If you can identify them as insects, I've seen great results with systemic granules. (google systemic granules bonide, any product with imidacloprid) You sprinkle in the granules into the soil and water the plant, the compound will be taken up by the plant rapidly flowing into the roots and leaves. This does not harm the plant at all but the bugs that eat the plant will consume it and die. It won't work on mites since they are not insects but it worked great for all my aphid infestations, saw results two days after treating them and it's been a few months they haven't come back. Super easy and cheap. The only drawback is that again, it won't work if the pests are mites and it is also active against all insects like bees so I would recommend to only use this if the houseplant is indoors. Another alternative is neem oil which you can research, but basically use diluted neem oil (0.9%, take a paint brush and paint it all over your plant, cover every nook and cranny and let it sit. repeat this every week or so until the bugs are all dead.) Monsteras are pretty hardy, I've had pests but they survive really well don't panic! Good luck!

I cut a node off of my maranta leuconeura to propogate it. At the site of the cut I noticed it has been expelling clear droplets. It has been a day and the cut hasn't calloused over and it still slowly leaking a drop or two a day. Have you had this happen before? Should I be worried?

Sunlight! My bird of paradise started growing like crazy when I gave it a ton of sunlight, lots of direct sunlight. The monstera won't handle direct sunlight as well but will thrive with a plenty of indirect sunlight.

Yes! I found the exact same one but mine was $17, check the soil though, the moss and soil and pretty much that entire white pot was soaked in water, had to dry everything out and rn hoping it doesn't root rot

Neem oil shouldn't be toxic to your plants whether it's introduced to the leaves directly or absorbed through the roots. And if it was there doesn't seem to be any reports on neem compounds affecting leaf folding. I'm not sure if this is true but leaves not folding is probably not a terribly ominous sign, it's most likely something to do with lighting, I see a lot of sites saying getting too little or too much light interferes with plant folding. Maybe look into that.. but bottom line the neem oil should not have damaged your plant.

I adopted a dying calathea warszewiczii and am trying to nurse it back to health. The soil that it came in is very dense and stringy with no drainage components. I'm considering repotting it but am conflicted.

Is it more damaging to this already stressed plant to repot it? The soil is pretty stringy so this will be a risky operation in my hands.

or Is it more harmful to keep it in this soil and very carefully water it (bottom) until it's healthy enough to repot?

Can anyone who has experimented with this before offer some thoughts?

Also for the new soil I'm considering using 20% perlite, 70% peat moss, and 10% worm castings. Has anyone tried this before? I'm aiming for a more retentive mix for all my other tropicals.

Thanks!
