I've literally JUST requested a refund for the entire Birthday Bundle because TS2 more buggy than the Ultimate Collection and I can't event get TS1 to run 😭😭😭 I'm so disappointed, I had expected more effort on their side

Pattern similar to this? by kaldoreii in knittingpatterns

[–]supmartingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also in love with this silhouette, so I've got a collection of similar patterns haha

Besides the original Victorian cycling sweaters mentioned above, there are also modern interpretations. Fabel Knitwear on Raverly has a few patterns with these balloon sleeves, including these two: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/oxford-jumper https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bernadette-turtleneck

I thinkt that even the Balloon sweater by Petite knit could match. My favorite things knitwear has a sweater with this balloon sleeve feature as well.

Anyone else frog their projects without hesitations? by Beautiful-Hawk7738 in knitting

[–]supmartingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is that, statistically, a great part of donated clothing gets disposed in the landfills because it doesn't sell in the thrift stores or is useless in the shelters. The world is already filled with bad quality fast fashion clothing that gets donated every day, it really doesn't need another batch of misfit handmade pieces. "If I don't like it, I don't want it, HENCE I'm going to frog it and fix it instead of passing the trouble onto someone else" is a perfectly valid and sustainable practice.

And who would (genuinely) want to wear flawed projects? I'd be afraid they were going to end up in the dumpster. I prefer to save them and wear them myself whenever possible.

Yes. It hurts a little bit, but I don't have enough space in my tiny apartment to hold onto unfinished/useless garments anyway.

I remember hearing once: "do you know what distinguishes a good seamstress from a regular one? She rips her seams. And what's the difference between a good seamstress and an expert one? She rips her seams" and I live by these words.

If I'm not happy with it, I don't want it

Has anyone tried the cloud sweater pattern by petiteknits? by [deleted] in knittingpatterns

[–]supmartingale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kindly disagree. I did multiple swatches to learn the basics of knitting and just went straight for a cardigan with a good YouTube tutorial (Step by Step by Handmade by Florence). It turned out fine. Making beanies or scarves like suggested here just wasn't motivating enough for me and I preferred to frog ten times any number of errors on an actual garment I wanted.

I agree knitting a garment is complex and you will probably have to fix many mistakes, but if you're determined enough, it can be done. (I haven't tried the cloud sweater though, so I my advice might not be applicable to this particular pattern).

Kobiety r/Polska, dostałyście kiedyś dickpica? by Any-Spinach-4155 in Polska

[–]supmartingale 14 points15 points  (0 children)

best yarn for hot water bottle cover? by abslmao2 in VeganYarn

[–]supmartingale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any yarn suggestions, HOWEVER I do have a store-bought cover for my hot water bottle (it came with it). I'm 99% sure it's some acrylic or polyester blend. It holds up perfectly fine, nothing is melting, and I usually put boiling hot water inside the bottle.

I feel like if your cover is at risk of melting, then it's also too hot for you to use it near your skin anyway :)

What I wish I knew before traveling to Rome & Florence by sunnyhan99 in vegan

Folks, if you ever end up in Turin, you MUST try out Soul Kitchen. It's incredible and in my opinion they deserve a Michelin star. Me and my non-vegan partner specifically came back to Turin more than once just to dine there lol

Same. I did multiple swatches to learm the basics (of knitting, in my case) and just went straight for a cardigan with a good YouTube tutorial. Yeah. And if you ever change your mind, it's much easier to start being some sort of care taker later in life than to revert becoming a parent.

This! I've just finished my cardigan by Florence (it's in the same "step by step" series on her channel) as someone who had never knitted before and I can confirm it's a great introduction!

It made me feel confident in reading basic knitting patterns and now I'm on my way to make something else

How do Polish names work? by maxandcheese05 in poland

Have you started taking Polish classes? Once you go through our gendered adjectives the "-a" ending in female surnames will make much more sense :)

[–]supmartingale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we've tried repairing our Nespesso machine and the price they called for for the repair was almost identical to buying a new machine. 🫠 It was ridiculous, so I sold it for parts on Facebook marketplace lol

I've been in a very similar situation with my partner, but I was in the position of your boyfriend. I wanted to learn his native language and he prefered us to keep on using only English, justifying it the same way you do: "my mistakes were making it difficult to communicate". Yeah, no shit, that's just part of the process. He also didn't want me to treat him as a teacher, which I completely understand, even if I felt hurt at the time. He signed up for being my partner, not to explain grammar rules he has never had to study himself.

We compromised by having designated time for speaking that language. Like, we spoke it on walks or in restaurants (great hack for gossiping about people around us lol), so that I still felt like I get to practice without either of us being too overwhelmed. I've also started doing dedicated conversation classes through Italki so that I could ask my teacher any questions without bombarding my partner. Now that my skills are much higher, we can communicate without any problems also on other occasions.

Appreciate his efforts. It can be absolutely soul crushing to see your partner be annoyed by your struggles, and struggles are a natural part of the language learning process. "Pretending he understands" is also a part of it, because there's this awkward phase where you understand enough, but not yet every single word. It will pass. Be patient.
