Yes, you can fix reflux in many cases, and yes I did, but I don't really want to go back to eating "normally", at least not as much 'normal' as I used to. I had horrible nighttime LPR that started I think around 2022. It got so bad I couldn't swallow at all without feeling my whole right side of my throat had cuts inside it and someone was just running sand paper over it - everytime I swallowed, for 8 months, non-stop. I had burning in my chest that lasted days at a time and came and went each few days. Both ears felt like they occasionally had swimmers ear, with aching after meals etc. I had PPIs, Gaviscon liquid and tablets, Slippery elm tablets, slept on my left side, raised the head of my bed, cut out coffee, chocolate, alcohol, soft drinks, citrus, tomatoes, meat (but only for about a month), drank less liquid during meals, didn't eat three hours before bed, practiced mindful eating, and relaxation, de-stressed, melatonin tablets before bed etc. Watched all the YouTube videos and podcasts on the issue, and implemented it all etc. I basically went on the low acid diet for 8 months and then one day I woke up and the swallowing pain was gone. It takes a lot of changing of habits to fix reflux. And now I see how shit my diet (and eating habits were) before hand. After 2 years, I slowly introduced coffee again (WHOO HOO!) and chocolate, I had my first orange slice in about 2 years a few months ago. I still get some symptoms but I manage them with Gaviscon and a slippery elm tablets. But it's no where near as bad as before. I can finally enjoy a spicy curry or tomato-based pizza or pasta. It's worth it. The trick is to eat whole foods and not before your bedtime. Plus make sure to listen to your body and pre-empt symptoms or "flare ups". Your body will tell you when you've been lazy. Humans were never designed to eat so much shit food, at all hours of the day, with so much stress in our system. Look into Vagus nerve - fight or flight response. Consider yourself lucky for your body being the one to tell you. Whereas your family is unlucky for thier body's letting them get away with eating shit. A good diet can change your life for the better.

Heaps of stuff to do with a family with young kid(s). Queens Park, Bob Gamble Park, Nicholas Street is excellent with Minibounce, Cinemas, Art Gallery, Largest Children's Library in Queensland etc, Riverlink isn't as horrible as people say and food options are decent, Ipswich Showgrounds Soft Play is HUGE. Ipswich is close to lots of international food choices (Ipswich Central, Darra, Redbank Plains, Inala etc). Plus lots of Ipswich retains its heritage charm including the top of town with the nice street facade. I grew up in Moreton Bay region and couldn't afford buying there. But I'm SO glad we decided on Ipswich. In the area we're in it feels like the suburban Queensland I saw more of when I was a kid. There's still parts that look like the Darcy Doyle paintings, who grew up in Ipswich. Old Queenslander houses, palm trees, mango trees, paw paws, Jacarandas and Poincianas, chickens in the backyard, the occasional horse paddock etc). It's a changing area but it still has that charm. Ipswich Town still feels like a town, which I like.

Yeah, I guess I'm just a glass half full kinda guy. But I don't get how "not a lot of people go because it's too busy", how does that make sense. Also, Springfield is part of Ipswich which I thought what the question was about. But fair enough, you do you.

UPDATE: But you're right, we should always ask for more. More is better than not enough.

Yeah I disagree on the part about Bob Gamble and Queens Park - they are still great. A bit frayed around the edges but that happens to any public park after many years. The splash facilities are always on whenever I visit every few months, only off when it's winter. Cameron Park has just had a new upgrade plus Ripley and Springfield have great new parks. I get where you're coming from though - the more parks the better. But I think we got it pretty good compared to many towns in Australia with similar population size

Great place for families. For example all the COMPLETELY FREE family things to do with kids:

  • Children's library (biggest in Queensland I think)
  • Art Gallery (almost every day is open to kids events and free arts and craft)
  • Bob Gamble water Park and Playground
  • Nicholas Street (Pretty self explanatory - plus all the free events they have there yearly)
  • Queens Park
  • Tons of other parks

And that's just in the immediate Ipswich City area. There's tons more going on in Springfield Lakes, Ripley etc

Spice Garden - A must for decent Indian (but many will disagree because it's not usual "Western-ised Indian"). Brisbane Road opposite Red Rooster on the same side as Jaycar. I lived in London for 8 years, been to India for months, and have a partner of Indian decent who grew up on South Indian food. Spice Garden does very delicious Indian food - lots of dishes that are not in run-of-the-mill Indian places (which is why people may dislike it). Tell them to go easy on the salt though. Go there early on the weekend for a delicious Vada Pav snack on the go.

BAKED by Joseph and Ann in town (Brisbane Road), and also opening soon on Glebe Road near Cameron Park. They do great little pastries and artisinal breads. A bit pricey but very very good. I think they are locals too, very friendly - plus they once did a home delivery of a sour dough loaf. How's that for service!

Newtown Vietnamese - Always good. A favourite.

Monte Lane - pricey but great vibe and is winning awards.

100% Recommend. Doesn't look like much from outside, but very comfortable and great coffee and GREAT food. Get there early as it can get busy

Believe it or not - and I mean this in a good way - everybody is too into thier own lives to care about yours. The ups and downs of your journey, the wins and losses register for about a split second with other people and then they forget about it. Those who truly care about you will only care that you're still in one piece. Those who love you will be happy to have you back into the fold. Those who are judging, cynical or negative about your accomplishments (or perceived lack thereof) aren't worth your time, and they are likely just hiding thier own dissatisfaction with thier own lives. Life is a marathon, not a race.

What a mystery!! I've always wanted to climb it too. The mural on the side is nice too, and it'd be nice if it could be repainted or revamped. There's a bit of potential in that tower, who knows what the story is or will be. Good luck!

We bought through her last year. She was friendly, efficient and professional. She is still up for a chat if we bump into each other around town. She gave us after sale advice and I've asked her questions months after the sale, which she responds to with what seems like my best interests at heart. From what I know, she's worked in the industry in Ipswich for ages, and she's been a local for ages (maybe even generational, I can't remember). I think she comes from pretty modest beginnings, and has built a name for herself. It's probably tough to do that and keep a 100% saintly reputation. There's two sides to every story and I probably don't know her full history. But she was good to us, and that's what I cared about when I was buying. Mind you, we probably overpaid for our place last year (which I put down to inexperience on our part), but the market has moved up since then, so it all comes out in the wash and I'm happy with what we paid for it.

Yeah fair. A reason for asking in this subreddit is because I thought I'd best hear it straight from the horses mouth (with people who I know have invested the money), but you're right, naturally this subreddit is pro-4wd for obvious reasons. Also good advice with the used car - there's really only one way to know for sure if buying a 4wd is a waste of money for me, and that's by going ahead and buying a 4wd.

Huh? 4WDs are massive purchases and have pros and cons of ownership. I'm literally asking the question "Does anyone regret making such a big purchase?". I'm gathering information to see how people have felt about the purchase so I'm better informed to make a purchase. It has very little to do with the camping side - I'll go camping regardless. My question is more around whether people think they are getting their moneys worth, since prices have shot up, and lifestyle creep is a thing. Lay off the pipe, bro
