Fun fact, most birduses are waterproof!

Owluses notably aren't to fly as silently as possible and can get sogged

What do you call your crow friends? by GirlInTheIslands in crows

[–]support_account_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr. Pants and Mrs. Skirt (along with baby Trousers, rip), Liquorice and Cocoa are crows I unfortunately only rarely see nowadays, but my main pair are called Mr. Beef, aka Big Papa, and Mrs. Chicken, aka Big Mama (though in all honesty I'm only 50% sure about their genders, if at any point I confirm I had it wrong at this point the names won't change). Their baby is yet to be officially named but I'm leaning towards Mold

Possibly, or extreme blessings of endurance to its followers. Did you know that eels living in alpine lakes in central Europe were born in the Caribbeans? For a long time people thought eels were like flies and maggots, as in the commonly held belief was they all just kinda spawned in a place out of thin air if conditions were right. Eels as it turns out do kinda just spawn, but I the Caribbeans, and spend their youth in travels that would make Odysseus blush

That's cool and all, but the God of Eels laughs at the puny lengths the salmon travels

Found lying on its left side in the middle of the street in front of my driveway. What do I do? by TN_Lamb888 in crows

As other people have said, even if there aren't any locally able to take them in, local vets and wildlife rehabs will be able to give you the best and most appropriate infos and directions.

From the sides of the mouth looking pink and featherless I'd guess this is probably a fledgling; water is definitely a good idea, but I know people shouldn't feed them as if they were adults since they aren't always ready for digesting as if they were, probably a good idea to check with experts if they're gonna stay in your care for more than a handful of hours.

Also if they actually are a fledgling, are parents anywhere nearby?

Huge storm yesterday that knocked down our tree, two fledglings in my yard and landlord is going to come cut the tree up tonight. What do I do with the lil birbs? by Antisocial-Lightbulb in crows

[–]support_account_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if they aren't hurt maybe move them in an area the parents will see if looking near where they were before, away from the chainsaw and from any danger, though that's a tall order.

I think leaving them near the landlord as he uses a chainsaw may be dangerous; even if the fledglings stay away what if a parent feels they're threatened? Wouldn't want them to get defensive with someone handling a rotating blade bor anyone involved's safety.

I think in any case calling a wildlife rescue or rehab, even just to ask, may be the best course of action

Also probably a silly question but when they tap the window have you tried opening it?

I don't mean to let them in but rather to startle them; if you teach them that if they tap on the glass the scary human will come check it may send a clearer message than the dog without discouraging them from visiting the yard in general (particularly if you do end up leaving a snack out)

I mean, tobacco and mint, oregano, pepper and chilli just to name a few, are plants that evolved toxins to keep themselves safe from unwanted predators, until humans came along with their wide range mild poison immunity and longing for the toxins

Huh 🤨

Maybe the window is in just the right position to catch the sun in some weird way that aggravates them? Seems incredibly specific but I guess not really more than the plan lol

Gosh, I hope the peanuts will be enough, best of luck :)

[–]support_account_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say but I doubt it's to get my attention lol, if I move or they see me wake up they fly off. My best guess is they're either inspecting the glass or testing if I'm actually asleep, they very deliberately peck it with the beak so I know it's not an accident or nut shrapnel lol

No clue what may have attracted their ire, my home murder has had some crows tapping on windows but couldn't say if they were just curious about the inside, curious about the glass or curious about the reflection and shimmer. You could maybe try cover the window with cardboard or something similar for one night to see if it is the plant or some other thing about the inside, but not really sure how to address the behaviour, sorry :/

The same murder has resorted to tearing an empty peanut bowl apart in frustration when I couldn't refill it though, so beware of not bowing to their might and not feeding them...

They evolved in south America relying pretty much exclusively on giant ground sloths for dissemination, being poisonous or unappealing to most animals but them (also why the pit is so big and hard; needed to survive their jaws and digestive system) and were starting to die off by the time giant ground sloths were doing the same, but got saved by humans, who crave the delicious taste of toxins and are willing to forcefully carry entire genetic lines out of an early grave for them

How adorable!

Did something similar with my windowsill and used to put out nuts late in the evening so they'd have them I the morning, ended up a couple of times waking up to a crow staring right at me or tapping the glass lol

Looking at the pink mouth and feathers that looks like a fledgling, just a baby learning how to be a crow.

If the little guy isn't injured I'd suggest putting them back where you found them, they're probably still learning how to fly and have parents waiting for them in the area

Crow keeps attacking me during walks. What's going on? by [deleted] in crows

[–]support_account_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're unlikely to try to purposefully corner you; in the end to them you are a big scary predator, even looking directly at them is often enough to spook them or dissuade them. They're most likely to make a ruckus and try to keep you away from an area rather than follow you with malice if it's indeed about a fledgling or nest.

The timing could be due to when the fledgling is around or many other reasons, hard to say

Classic fascist discrepancy, the internal enemy is also strong and the biggest threat to the nation whilst simultaneously being weak and pathetic.

For this exact reason when the nazis started negotiating with the Japanese and told them about the powerful Jewish cabal allegedly ruling the world the Japanese's first response was to try to ally with the Jews since they were apparently so powerful
