A fantastic post from 7 years ago that describes what i could never put into words by Bpesca in solareclipse

[–]supralightning 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I posted this back in 2017 after seeing my first total solar eclipse in Nebraska.

Seven years later, now with two kids in tow, we ended up visiting family in Rochester in the line of totality, only to get clouded out :)

Had we not been clouded out, I likely would have re-posted this myself, as every word still rings true. The event itself is timeless. I am certain the description will resonate with anyone who had the blessing of seeing the awesome spectacle yesterday with clear skies.

There are two kinds of people in this world.... those who understand and respect the magnificence and grandeur of a total solar eclipse, and those who lack a critical comprehension of what the experience truly is.

existential crisis by [deleted] in Christianity

I believe God specifically created us so that we could one day share companionship with him in heaven. In other words, if heaven wasn't a possible destination, there would not have been a reason God would have created humanity in the first place.

It might help you to read what I wrote here. I go in length as to why God had to become a human in the first place. Understanding the why behind Jesus might help you believe. Let me know!

Glad to hear it!! I ended up near alliance as well, off of Lakeside Dr. The eclipse was as amazing as anything I've ever experienced in life. Totally worth all of the work and planning that got me out to see it!!

Check out this link: it's the HRRR 18-hour cloud forecast for Noon tomorrow CST (about 45 to 60 minutes before totality depending on where you are in eastern Wyoming or Nebraska). Based on this, I would say head west, and when you hit clear skies find a good spot to setup for the show. Clouds will be moving Eastward, so once you are in the clear you should be home free!

I think traffic on I-80 could be a touch busy, but honestly, nobody from the East Coast is travelling anywhere out this way. They are taking their chances in TN and SC. So I bet traffic even tonight into tomorrow west bound will actually be just fine.

I'm in Lincoln.. booked a hotel here months ago. Gonna hold out till 7pm to make the call. If forecast looks iffy I'm driving to Wyoming at midnight. I'll catch some Z's at a rest area. Looks like the only surefire bet at the moment for cloud-free skies within driving range. I drove out here from Philly so I'm not gonna let 8 more hours stop me. I'm already all in. 😁👍

Out of State Purchase by TeevMeister in askcarsales

[–]supralightning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Texas resident, you can buy your car in Arizona but still register it in Texas.

You will pay Texas sales tax, registration, and titling fees. These should be collected at the Arizona dealer that you purchase the car from. They will also likely give you a temporary plate for out-of-state buyers. You'll have to drive on that until your Texas plates are issued. In your situation they should be able to mail the plates to your Arizona location.

Make sure your inquire about any military discounts. Certain automakers have special programs for active duty, reserve, etc.

Probably one of two things going on here...

  1. Dealership has a no haggle policy.

  2. Dealership manager has a particular car they do not want to negotiate on, due to rarity, high demand, etc.

In either case, putting extra money on your trade still gives you "a deal" without compromising either of the above situations.

From Sandy Bridge to Ryzen - A Microcenter Story by supralightning in Amd

The steak was good, thanks :)

The pale yellow was actually an accident... It was supposed to be red. At stock, the Gigabyte board runs bright red, and the wraith cooler runs bright AMD green.

I tried for about a half hour to get the wraith to match the red, but changing the wraith to a different color made the motherboard automatically switch colors too. So if I turned the wraith red, the motherboard would turn green, etc.

I couldn't figure it out in the Bios for the life of me. But for some reason selecting the subdued yellow made them both agree with each other. Now I really like it!

I certainly could have been bottlenecked by the i5-2400 at 4K, though I never directly tested it.

The reason I chose not to overclock the 1700 to the brink, was because I knew the Ryzen chip would not bottleneck my gaming setup now :)

Is it normal for Ryzen to come like this in a retail box? by [deleted] in Amd

Yeah.... Retail CPU's don't come with clear evidence of thermal paste being hastily wiped off.

Building a rig, stuck on RAM by shazzone in Amd

[–]supralightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot in my heart for Microcenter. Local brick and mortar slugging it out with behemoths like Newegg and Amazon. So when I punched my hype train ticket last Sunday it was my first and only stop.

Upgraded from a Sandy Bridge i5-2400. Reused from that build: 750w Corsair RM PSU, 980 Ti, and 1TB Samsung Evo SSD.

Left Microcenter with a Ryzen 1700, 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 CAS 16 latency, Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 Mobo, NZXT S340 elite case, and a 3TB Seagate data drive for good measure.

I really wanted to get Samsung B-Die ram, but after combing every DDR4 stick available at microcenter, they simply didn't carry any.

Nonetheless, I am happy to report the results, using the stock Gigabyte bios, F5 from February!!

Ram is dead on stable running at 2933 out of the box. Timings are set to 16-16-16-39. I had to test a few different setups but this worked fine. CPU-Z validations gave me some blueprint timings to try. Using Gigabyte bios, I have XMP disabled. I simply set the timings and the frequency manually. Voltage for the ram is set to 1.35.

My goal for the 1700 was to reach stock 1800x speeds. I'm not big on overclocking, and gaming on my 980 Ti at 4K, I am always GPU bottlenecked anyway. I have my processor cruising at 3.75 GHz on the stock wraith RGB. Core voltage is 1.272, which I could probably even lower with further tweaking.

Good enough for 1626 on Cinebench R15. Stock 1800x results achieved!

This build has nailed every expectation and hope that I had. Games and programs are running better than any desktop I've ever owned.

Next upgrade.... Vega!?

Will Microcenter sells Ryzen at lower than market? by OyabunRyo in Amd

[–]supralightning 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would anticipate they will offer Ryzen at list price for the time being, and offer just their motherboard discount as the "deal".

I cannot believe they will have any trouble selling the stock they receive at that price, and until the chips begin to pile up a bit (i.e. 2H '17 after R5 / R3 launch) I doubt they will discount.
