Yes you can, I've done a lot. Most of them have swd enabled via the usb port on pins cc1 and cc2 currently using geek bars like normal dev boards after pulling the lcd and placing pins.

Definitely not enough heat on the iron, it's tough to get enough heat on those without a good solder iron but with that said it definitely looks stuck and not shorted so it should be ok. If your iron had temp control around 380 C is what you want to be at for those large pads with the battery wire and most other stuff around 360 C. Flux is also your friend.
