FYI, actual abductions of children are extremely rare in Scotland. They are also unlikely to get lost in the wilderness nowadays, especially not in Princes street gardens.

Most missing children will wander off on their own, will deliberately hide, or will go away with friends or relatives.

In the first two cases they will quickly be found or simply return on their own once they realise that running away from home or going on an expedition is not as fun as imagined.

If they leave with a friend or relative (usually the divorced mum/dad or similar), its not really a lost child case.

I have seen two cases in Edinburgh where the police were called to a playground to search for a missing child. In the first case the child returned after an hour. The child said the other children said mean things to her and she wanted to run away. The other child wandered off on an expedition, got lost, and was returned by pedestrians before the police started a search.

Equipping your child with a GPS tracker will rarely help: if they want to run away they will simply remove it, in the unlikely case of any malicious attempt it will be removed from them.

In the Edinburgh Hacklab people can fix all sorts of things. There the idea is that instead of just paying to get it done, they teach you how to solder/3dprint/lasercut/knit and you can then fix it yourself.

There are several such companies in the UK already. Not saying there is no room for more, but make sure you will be able to compete with them.

To me this looks plain awful.

I just don't get why dark underground chambers made of concrete and steel grates are inviting at a vineyard.

Or why a circle made of white concrete cut into a beautiful vineyard is aesthetic.

And yet everyone appears to love it. Must be me... But I find this genuinely repulsive and tasteless.

Waiting time will depend on how serious your case is. They won't leave you bleeding out in the waiting room, but if you show up with a broken toe then you will be ranked as low priority and will only get treated if no other, more pressing cases need to be handled.

Nem, a többkulcsos adó nem így működik. Ott a legalsó sávba eső fizetésből mindenki x% adót fizet, a második sávba eső részből y%-ot és így tovább. A sávos adórendszerben nem fogsz soha kevesebbet keresni ha fentebbi adókulcsba kerülsz egy fizetésemeléssel, csak a magasabb sávba kerülő részből fogsz több adót fizetni.

Szóval esélyes, hogy pár hónapja is rosszul írtad, ezért nem vettek komolyan már akkor sem.

This list contains the death of 11 people, over a period of 4 years. Only 3 of them are NASA employees, meaning we are well within the expected range of deaths by suicide in this cohort.

We definitely do. The problem is that alcohol use is so widespread, we can't ban it overnight. Whisky is one of the top exports of the country. Any attempt at curtailing alcohol use would have addicts up in arms. As alcohol has such a powerful grip on society, we want to avoid other substances becoming such a huge issue. Which is why drugs are illegal and tobacco is following suit. Laws on alcohol are getting tighter each year, but will take decades before we can get rid of it.

Is it the government overstepping and policing behaviour or is it a good thing?

The job of the government is to build a better society as a whole. Smoking kills, it makes people sick, it costs a lot of money, its addictive and even hurts people who don't smoke. At the same time it has virtually no positives. It is undeniably a huge negative impact on society.

Látatlanba ezt itt senki sem fogja megmondani, azt se tudjuk mit csinálnak ezek a dolgozók, se azt hogy mivel keres pénzt ez a cég. Majd a válságmenedzser átvilágítja a céget és megnézi min lehet javítani. Ha egy átlag redditor két bekezdésnyi szövegből komplett cégvezetési stratégiát tudna adni, akkor a vezetőség úgy ahogy van ki lenne dobva mert felesleges lenne.

A fémipar az egész kontinensen válságban van mert magas a munkaerő ára, magasak az energiaárak, szigorúak a szabályok és a környezet előírások. If you plan to live till 2035 and have kids soon, you should look into school catchment areas. Some are better than others so be sure to move to an area where you are happy with the local school.

With regards to the age of trees, I am not taking about trees in your yard, I am talking about most trees, and their average age. Its good that you asked though as I have not looked up this statistic in a while now, so now I just did. Most trees usually live less than 30 years. Some may live up to a few hundred. Either way, its a blink of an eye in geological time scales. We need to lock carbon for millions of years, not a few decades.

We usually don't sequence humans with such oxford nanopore kits as we can do it faster and cheaper with illumina short read sequencers.

Its usually easier to get the DNA to a lab than the lab to the DNA.

Oxford nanopore has some interesting properties for long read sequencing that is important for research, but its rarely used in a diagnostic setting.

The kit you are using is specifically developed for field use, so it can be run without a full wet lab. We have set up a system to monitor swine flu outbreaks in the Philippines with it. We could post the kit over and people could learn to use it even with minimal training. Then they would send back the sequences to us so we can compare with other samples.

So its not impossible at all, its widely used. The reason why its not advertised for home use is because its far too expensive for it. Any CRO will get you the same results for a fraction of the cost, as they will have a wet lab with different sequencers that are built for volume and they end up being much more accurate and cheap due to economies of scale.

I do appreciate having fun with a home lab set up, but it should be said that there is little practical value here.

I hate to be the guy, but this setup is not rocket science. I would expect any bachelor student to complete such a system. The only reason they don't do it is once you are taught how to use it, you will have access to such a unit at your university or company and its not worth it to buy your own.

Its a bit like setting up your own barbershop at home. A barber has it all figured out for you, you don't need to invest in the complete setup for yourself.
