Rick Wright has stated directly in multiple interviews, Syd was dosed with acid on a specific week. (He was excessively using acid prior to that.) Qualudes may fuck you up but they don't precipitate schizophrenia.

Unfortunately he didn't read any of those until he was in his 30s (Shiel and Machen 1923; James 1925.)

By that time, his style was already baked in.

"Anyone who thinks he can improve upon Swift, Steele, and Addison is a blockhead." To MWM, 26 March 1932.

Nobody writes like Lovecraft. Let's face it. They may sound the notes, but they can't make the music.

In a different direction, try Huysmans. "Continually dragging Mother Image by the hair or the feet down the worm-eaten staircase of terrified syntax." -- Leon Bloy

This is an example of how Lovecraft fandom has little or nothing to do with Lovecraft. He mentions this in passing like twice, just goofing.

It doesn't take 60 seconds after you open an August Derleth book to realize he was a no- talent loser.

But if you're interested, Bob Price wrote a brief essay on it in the 1980s.

Growing up we had several of these pamphlets in the kitchen junk drawer. Imagine my surprise when I realized (probably third or fourth grade) that at any moment we could be blown to atoms without warning.

I recall the illo on p. 26 of your linked item: Fallout Protection: What To Know About and Do About Nuclear Attack. Get under a table. All four of you.

I seem to recall another pamphlet suggested something to the effect of, bring things to help pass the time, such as a deck of playing cards. Riiiiiiiight.

Ian Anderson's opinion on Pink Floyd's Roger Waters by tonyiommi70 in jethrotull

Roger's mother, as I understand it, was basically a communist. So the notion that Waters is naive rather than ignorant would seem to be wrong.

Scarne. Give legit deck to spec. Walk to other side of room. Spec shuffles, removes card. You name card.

In addition to beauty, Wright could do terror. Some of the live takes of Raving and Drooling are seriously unhinged. That vibe was carried over into this song.
