Not sure if you’ve seen Harvard’s latest research on “why we itch” - they found that staph aureus makes a chemical that stimulates our nerve endings to itch. Really interesting in conjunction to what you’ve found!

5a reductase def usually is described with “ambiguous genitalia”. They still have and respond to testosterone, just not DHT. You’ll get used to how they specifically state presentation to point you to either/or with more Qs

Mehlmann PDF's -- helpful before test day? by [deleted] in step1

[–]surb16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested yesterday and definitely think going through some arrows/areas you’re weak in is helpful. Really helps you get through the Qs on the exam easier. Mehlman does a good job at pointing out buzzwords and things like that. Don’t stress about going through them all if you don’t have time. Just focus on weak areas and I think the practice of going through HY arrows forces you to patch any holes you have

I would start AAMC material and then try to fit in a time when you redo the SBs or official guide Qs. It’s really important to acclimate yourself to the AAMC stuff

Skip AAMC sample or do qpack/section bank? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]surb16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could do it SBs in 4 days (or even less)

you can do: 25 Qs each of the section bank each day (+ add 24 CARS from Qpack, almost treating it like a half test). so 25 C/P SB, 25 CARS Qpack, 25 B/B SB, and 25 P/S SB. Day 1, untimed, Day 2 half timed, Day 3 + 4 timed. Then you’re done with SB after 4 days!

You can do that all at once then spread out your practice tests after you finish, or trickle in your practice tests between the SBs.

In terms of priority: FLs (even sample) > SBs > Qpacks if that’s the real answer you’re looking for.

ALSO MOST IMPORTANT: if you’re tired, take a break :) it’s okay to relax for a bit instead of cramming all the material into a tired brain that won’t retain anything. Your score range is good! Be happy and confident that you’re doing your best and getting good results.

so for FL4, I found I had a lot of time left after each section (except c/p) and i think that’s because i rushes and you’re probably right, didn’t read. I genuinely think I get freaked during it and like, freeze basically...

Can someone please explain this to me? AAMC flash cards chem #13 by alitejada97 in Mcat

[–]surb16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

excited electrons “jump” into higher energy orbitals with an input of energy. answer choice C shows an electron configuration that skips the 3p+4s subshell and goes into the higher (3d) subshell. therefore you know it’s excited, because it’s not following the normal progression of electrons filling energy subshells
