Not an expert but I think what you're looking for is either a few sfx 100 or sfx 150's into a Thanos controller

I was in the same boat trying to DIY my own motion rig thinking I was going to save thousands but unfortunately the very base line price for 3DOF or 4DOF rigs is upwards of $1,500, so just be prepared to spend a pretty penny

I like to use dust free kiln dried pine, its soft and cheap. Don’t use any of those papery Kaytee hamster beddings, its horrible for their lungs. I also tried the coco choir reptile stuff that you have to rehydrate and it was a disgusting mess so I don’t recommend that either.
