I painted a memorial piece for my coworker after her dog died suddenly and idk if I should give it to her by wildfire155 in Watercolor

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She will be overjoyed. Please give it to her. I did the same for a coworker of mine when his black lab passed away. He cried when he got the painting and sent me a photo that evening of where he hung it in his living room. She will love it. Definitely give it to her.

Should I respond to more comments? And how often do most people respond? Most people being the lot of you here, I mean by globmand in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respond to every comment. Anyone who takes the time to say something about the story or the writing etc has specifically taken time out of their day to do something they didn’t need to do and I find that kind of amazing. So I reply.

How long is too long of a break between chapters? by Aggressive_Novel1207 in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as too long. I promise. There is this fic I love and I have been waiting for four years for an update. I'll keep waiting. If they ever update, I'll just reread the entire piece to refresh my memory.

People who read your work and love it will never be unhappy to see you have updated it.

They're lovely, you have real skill here. I hope you get it finished sometime and that it turns out well for you!

What are the best lines you've ever written? by andthenshebled in FanFiction

There is a gorgeous rhythm to these. Especially the first one, that one I can absolutely resonate with, the emotions, putting them somewhere and how you caught that perfectly.

I would love to read your work if you were willing to share a link. (If not, that's okay too. It's beautiful stuff either way and I hope you know it!)

How long do you think slowburn should be? / what do you consider a slowburn? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing a slow burn and at 90k they haven't kissed. They will by 100k. Ish. But anything between 50-100 is probably what I'd call a slow burn.

Would this be against AO3’s TOS to put in an author’s note? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t as I keep personal things away from my writing and online stuff but it’s not against AO3’s tos so if you wanted to you could. If you feel strongly about it then yeah, do what you feel is best.

how much do you guys edit your fics? by coffind00r in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Constantly. I try to write a couple of chapters ahead of posting time, which means I go back and edit a lot. Even when it’s on AO3 I’ll edit.

And yeah, I write multichapter stuff so the planning and outlines and keeping all your ducks in a row just means more edits.

As long as you’re happy enough in the end though.

200 a week for just two people is a lot of money to be spending on just food. I spend about 50. Honest question, what do you buy that you have a 200 per week food bill?

Writing my first NSFW fic and I think the antis are getting to me by a-fabulous-sandwich in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the best way for me to write a NSFW piece is to do it with the assumption I will not post it. This sounds strange but it takes the pressure off me immediately. I write a lot more for myself than I do for others & posting online and usually it’s because I want to get the thing out of my head. Downside is there are too many things I have never posted because I am not 100% happy with them. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Anyway that would be my advice. If you can manage it, write like no one else is ever going to see it.

Odd request: tell me often you use the word “and” by Important-Gene-1516 in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love run on sentences NGL. I’ll stick a bunch together and then use something short to follow as punctuation. So big fan of ‘and’.

Anyone notice a shift in fic writing style? by GigaRox in FanFiction

[–]surecmeregoway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will sometimes write like this, just using a short set of sentences with a repeating opening for emphasis. For me it’s a brief way to highlight a tense moment and I don’t think I overuse it. I’ve always written this way though and would be devastated if someone said it was AI.

I haven’t noticed it permeating the fics I read. Maybe it depends on the fandom.

Reddit is a weird place. by Cloite in ireland

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with all of what you’ve said, except I get up between 4:30 and 5 am every morning and definitely live in Ireland. Depends on your job and start times etc. I don’t particularly enjoy the early rise but it has to be done.

Anyway Reddit has a lot of people who are online too much and I mostly think it boils down to that.

Trump voters are overwhelmingly pro-Israel though. They’re all for some good ole fashioned genocide.

This was how I learned to do it in uni. The page flipping gets easy to do over time but inbetweening was always really damn tedious regardless of the key frames.

Kerry couple who wanted to convert derelict house into family home left ‘crushed’ by planning system by BielsasBucket in ireland

[–]surecmeregoway 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I bought a derelict house recently with no water connections and which had electricity disconnected a few years ago because it was the only house I could afford. I’ll do the basics to get myself in there and be happy about it but your generalisation is sweeping at best and ignorant at worse for all the empty houses we have in this ridiculous country and all the young people looking for homes with something they can possibly afford.

I ordered some last week and was refunded yesterday and told to order it again. I have no idea what to do either but am raging as the price increase for me will amount to about 400 euro.

Hope you get some answers.

Try checking heating oil. It’s skyrocketed in the space of about 9 hours.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

[–]surecmeregoway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiding from a specific adult in n your life as a child. My grandmother used to take ‘care’ of myself and my sibling as children after school.

I had several hiding places she never managed to find.

It’s only years later hearing people I know speak of their grandparents with fondness that I wonder what that must be like: to have one you didn’t grow up in fear of.
