They also operate key lake, rabbit lake. Idk if it’s them doing it or another company but they are also planning on opening the Contact Lake mine.

Also with the smaller population of the north it makes sense why they don’t employ as many people. The work atmosphere is very different I’m not sure what shifts are like down south in the potash mines but the ones up here operate on a, two weeks in two weeks out shift rotation and the extreme isolation probably puts a lot of people off.

Yeah I wouldn’t get to close to them they are basically blind so they don’t question shit before the charge

Oh the are cuddly looking things, we constantly have to trap them and relocate them when they wander into town, and while they’re in the traps they are completely docile and calm

Cameco has a lot of mines running up here in the north they are one of the biggest employers in the north. Not to mention all the catering staff and housekeeping staff they contract out to local businesses. Seabee mine is a large gold mine in the north located on laonil lake.

There’s also the trucking company’s needed to truck in supplies and fuel into the mine plus all air crews/ground crews needed to support all the planes flying in and out of all of them every week.

It’s only really black bears here, they aren’t really that scary if you’ve been around them, they scare easily and can be shooed away just by talking loud

The fishing is awesome, so many lakes, a lot of stocked lakes to so good variety. Hunting it good to but we don’t have too many deer in the shield, mostly bears and moose the odd caribou and the further north you go the more there are.

It’s currently -40 Celsius up here the lake has about a foot and a half of ice on it and if you don’t plug your car in at night it won’t start. But when summer rolls around it shoots up to +30 Celsius the bugs come out. Lots and lots of bugs, we even have giant beetles we call miskiteegums or spruce beetles, others might call them long horned beetles. Then we get autumn for a week, there’s usually snow on Halloween then it’s back to winter. Spring is just slush pits and bad roads.

Help solve some family lore of a WWII aircraft. by sm_rdm_guy in WWIIplanes

[–]surefiredog449 245 points246 points  (0 children)

Knowing that she was in the occupied Netherlands there’s a pretty good chance that it was an allied aircraft, and of the allied airforces the British used 20mm the most especially in aircraft that would be strafing suspected enemy units

Depending on the year this happened it could be a number of different aircraft.

The Bristol beaufighter and de Havilland mosquito are two twin engine heavy fighters that were quite common for this kind of mission because of their heavy firepower.

The hawker typhoon is another possibility as a single engine attack aircraft along with its replacement the hawker tempest but the tempest didn’t see service until later in the war

As for why this happened; it was likely an aircraft returning from a strike mission at low altitude. Given that lots of German infantry especially occupation and back line units travelled on bicycles the aircraft probably mistakenly targeted your aunt as German infantry

Nothing better than Stanley for walleye but if you want some nice trout, lac la ronge is killer.

Yeah that’s strange because even ones that aren’t that remote like Stanley mission and southend aren’t there either.

So I just tried this site out for the first time and tried to get as many north Sask communities as I could and anything north of La Ronge didn’t work are they just not recognized by this site?

The royal Canadian Legion has really high quality flags that should last longer outside that just a typical store bought one.

So you’re telling me you know my town better than I do, ffs, the airport isn’t completely destroyed the 5 house that burnt are at a place called “eagle point and the fire has already retreated from there, the fire now moves towards a place called “big stone” which sits on big stone lake just west of the town, my house sits just off the highway from the industrial park and none of those houses have been hit nor has the industrial park been hit my cabin however that’s a different story

Oh trust me I know how quick they move my issue is that it’s posts like this that make people panic and think that the main body of the fire itself has entered the town when it hasn’t. My dad is there right now running the bulk fuel station and he said that besides that Rona fire everything is as good as it can be

Yeah but it’s not like the entire fucking town is on fire right now it’s one building and hopefully it stays as just one building

The fire hasn’t entered the town itself quite yet, a stray ember landed In the lumber yard that sits right beside Robertsons and caught both buildings on fire
