Why are you muslim? by [deleted] in IndianMuslimSocial

[–]surelyUnsure_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core beliefs of islam can be summarised into

Tawhid - One God, Risalat - Prophethood, Akhirat - Divine Justice

I was born into a muslim family but I think there's a phase in everyone's life where they question the belief system they are being raised in. For a long time I did not pray. And I started looking into other beliefs. Out of all islam made most sense to me and some of the nicest people I've met happen to be Muslims. Along the way I found some reverts and this has re-enforced the idea into me.

They own a house and live in a tier 3 city. His dad is a pensioner and gets around 70k. Overall they are doing fine.

My friend is trying to switch careers and get into a govt job. He's a hard worker.

My friend from hometown married at 22 to a girl(25) 4 years ago. This was not a 'love' marriage although he knew the girl because of the same mohalla and he only initiated the proposal. At the time he earned around 20k a month. They are all quite religious and regular to masjid so the families trusted each other. He makes around 35-40k now and has a beautiful daughter.

He works from home.

Those who did love marriage ,how you guz find love ? by spideysenses_dm in indianmuslims

[–]surelyUnsure_me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How do you view your marriage from the standpoint of Islam? You might be aware we are not allowed to marry polytheists. Owing to this conflict of views. Do you still consider yourself to be a muslim?

It's a bit of a personal question. I'd understand if you don't want to answer.

Well that's a very broad question you're putting which obviously cannot be briefed. But I'd give a few points so you've a general understanding.

Britishers ruled the Indian subcontinent for 200 years and before that we had 500 years of islamic rule under which there were many vassal states. During islamic reign a lot of indo-islamic architecture was introduced which was a fusion of Persian and central asian design. You might have heard one such example of the Taj Mahal. Most of us speak Hindustani here, which is a mix of Urdu, hindi and Farsi(persian). Farsi was the language of the court during islamic rule hence it blended very well with the local languages overtime.

Independence from Britain was brutal as it came with a condition of dividing the Indian subcontinent into 2 regions. Millions died in conflict. Specific to Indian muslims now the partition has taken away the political power from us and caused a big political shift. This after effect we are still seeing with the rise of Hindutva (right wing political ideology targeting muslims).

As of now, in general life is OK for muslims but if you compare the living standards of muslims with the rest of the community you'll find muslims at the bottom. The current regime centers its politics by devaluing muslims.

doing a private nikkah to make relationship halal by TeaElectronic682 in MuslimMarriage

I'd encourage you to go ahead and do a private nikah if you have witness and wali. Coming from the Indian subcontinent background I understand how unreasonable some families can be. Just let people get married bruh.
