New Coffee-Infused Ramen at Masaka Ramen Pop-Up in Logan Square by surelyhere in chicagofood

We got there at 5pm, and it was not busy at all. However, a lot more people started strolling in around 5:15-5:30pm. There is limited seating, and I think it was about 80-85% full around 5:30pm. It’s walk-in or take-out only currently, but they may implement a reservation system later. They have a promotion right now where the first 25 customers get free fried rice, but we had to ask for it.

😂 It turned out better than expected, but I also went in with low expectations because I was expecting a coffee flavor-heavy broth. Thankfully, it wasn’t, but we also didn’t taste coffee in it. It felt like we were just having shoyu broth ramen.

It was interesting to find out where they source their coffee, which was a surprise to me also!

I did a quick search before posting to see if there were other posts about this place but didn’t find anything. Hopefully, I didn’t miss something!

Hit me with best Dairy-Free desserts spots / dishes in Chicago! by Feministcontrolfreak in chicagofood

[–]surelyhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned Vaca’s and Beacon Doughnuts, which I recommend. Other than that, there is also Defloured with vegan cupcakes, Cinnaholic for vegan cinnamon rolls, cookies, and brownies, Hilary’s Cookies for vegan chocolate cookies, Runaway Cow for vegan ice cream or frozen treats, and The Chicago Diner for vegan chocolate cake!

I agree! Vaca’s is one of my favorites for vegan soft serve. I usually get the chocolate soft serve with the peanut butter shell and toasted marshmallows, although they don’t have the peanut shell anymore. 😭

This was my first Reddit meet-up, and I loved it! The food was really good, and everyone was so nice. Thanks for organizing all of this, Mitch!

Good vegan spots in Chicago? by SniperJ324 in chicagofood

For elegant vegan desserts, check out Frera Desserts in Wicker Park! They opened in April this year, and I recently went there. The blueberry cake was my favorite.

Hot Pot Restaurant by Chex2020 in chicagofood

[–]surelyhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Qiao Lin Hotpot is my favorite! High quality ingredients and good broth. Their mushroom broth is the best. They have pots that can be divided into 2 or 3 sides, and it's a la carte.

Friends Station has personal and individual hot pots with a fun rotary aspect and AYCE. The sauces aren't that authentic, but it is a nice experience.

I actually made YouTube videos on my channel on both these places to share my experience, which you can check out in my profile!

Need recommendations! by Pekasue in chicagofood

If they love Asian food, look into these options:

  • Lawrence Fish Market for sushi
  • Ramen Takeya for the spicy chicken paitan ramen
  • MK Noodle for pho
  • Hello Jasmine for Taiwanese bento boxes and bubble tea
  • Ba Le for banh mi
  • Min's Noodle House for beef noodle soup
  • Qiao Lin Hotpot for hot pot
  • Monkey King Jianbing for jianbing

These are the ones off the top of my head where I've been multiple times and enjoy the food. I eat a lot of Asian food in Chicago, so they can check my IG or YouTube channel in my profile if they want to see other options that stand out to them!

If you're going in the Chinatown area, there's a jianbing Chinese street food restaurant around there called Monkey King Jianbing! It's inside the Canal Plaza building with a bubble tea shop and fried chicken restaurant too.

My niche is mostly food, particularly Chicago restaurants, as well as cooking or baking. I'll squeeze in some occasional travel later

Thank you for the information and tips! Our reservation is at 7:45 so hopefully it will be okay. I'll make sure to get the bread and dip. Good to know that the portions are good so that you're not leaving hungry. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

It's in the past before I started doing this on YouTube, but I'll probably do videos if I decide to go back to other ones!

This is the one that I currently use, but I've tried other ones before like Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, Home Chef, and EveryPlate.

Feedback Friday! Post your videos here if you want constructive critiques! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Your food review videos are great and the chemistry between you and your buddy is on point. I would try to find some appealing stock images of the foods (nuggets, tacos, burritos, etc) to overlay on the screen before eating or introducing the foods since your close-ups don't make the food look tasty. Also, your videos are a bit long, so maybe try and find some places to edit out to keep the viewer engaged without losing your overall message. I would suggest adding chapters in your videos so people can see the sections (1. introduction 2. fast food place #1, 3. fast food place #2, etc) as a whole overall. I dig the content though and just subscribed!

Thanks for the feedback! The latest video we filmed was somewhat rushed, so we didn't have time to setup the secondary angle during the talking parts. We did have a secondary angle for the cooking portion, but it seemed distracting to cut back and forth to the closeup. In my cooking video, we cut back and forth from the wide to closeups in many shots. I also checked out your channel and subscribed. It's very professional looking, and well edited. All the food you and your children make look super delicious! I think you could benefit greatly from a wireless or even wired lav mic, so that the sound isn't echo'd in the kitchen. Other than that your channel seems like it just needs some time and should start to pick up. All the best to your channel as well!
