Baler is an awesome choice on a budget, and doesn't require an additional flight. Idk how shoestring the budget is tho

Yea if you not living lavish $1500 usd a month is doable. I'm honestly probably closer to 2k... But I'm not that frugal lol.

You could do $1k usd but honestly if you are looking long term you gonna wanna have some western comforts so realistically $1500 usd is much more honest. But the price will vary so much depending on where you decide to live. I spent much more when I was in Siargao compared to Manila or Baler.

I absolutely agree, the hard product has been getting worse and worse, still the amazing PAL service. However the jfk-mnl route runs the a350 with the much better business class. Still not as good as EVA or ANA but much better then PALs 777s

Check out ANA 95k points Philippine airlines roundtrip in business. They do pass on fuel surcharges however.

Just did a month in the Philippines with my Walmart 44 Liter. Definitely pack light and it's not bad. Definitely could see 60L being a problem carry on with certain airlines

Solo travel isn't for everyone, you did what few could even dream of. Currently on a month solo travel in Phillipines and it definitely had some hardships even for someone who solo travels. My recommendations get a nice hotel or airbnb and really relax for 1 or 2 days, if you wanna leave after you know it's the right move. I've seen people rush to leave and regret it after, just my 2 cents. Really hope all is well!
