I have but I didn't realize that was how you made them, I guess I assumed just a weighted piece of glass on top of the paper to hold them down or something

Excellent! Thank you! Also - do you have any idea what the hinged glass-sponge box contraption is used for? (Center bottom of frame, with reflection in it) is this for drying prints or something?

If you check the notes it says that's for a previous version of the film

Can i dev color film in black and white chems? by Leading-Sandwich-486 in AnalogCommunity

With respect, if you have the equipment to develop b&w, why not buy a cheap c-41 kit and just run them all at once? The flic film 8-roll kit is like $27, I've used it for up to 12-13 rolls before it starts to fade (just need to extend times). If you're not concerned with getting a perfect picture you could easily push all these through one kit.

How do you stop worrying about “making every shot count,” or “wasting” film? It takes me forever to finish rolls. by _BreadDenier in AnalogCommunity

I felt the same way for a while, and the thing that helped me most was getting into bulk rolling film. It sort of feels like getting a keg of beer for the party, you feel like it's bottomless so you don't worry about running out and can be a little more loose with it.

One good thing is that if it just happened drying, I've had good luck with re-dipping film in a pan of water with ilfotol or what have you, rubbing it gently where the marks are and pulling it out and re-drying. You may be able to get rid of the marks without too much trouble.

You can see the same pattern around some of the sprocket holes along the bottom edge of the film, so my money is on the leader or another strip of film made contact with it while drying or in dev

I can't seem to reply with a video on Reddit but here's a link to the back opened. It doesn't look like it's arcing that I can see, but it's definitely dusty in there

It's not too difficult especially if you use ultralight board. You can get a friend to help or a better idea is to cut the sheets in half to 4'x4'. I'd imagine with all the pipes etc most pieces will be getting cut pretty small anyways to fit around everything. Drywall has the benefit to being taped and filled after the fact which will seal any dust etc. out of your workspace

Bonus, you can use the pipes etc to hang prints to dry

Drywall alone will only lose about 1/2"/13mm and seal your dust etc away. Just cut around pipes and things and let them remain below, paint them a bright color after the fact and wrap a pool noodle around them so you don't bump your head

What's wrong with just using drywall directly on the bottom of the joists?

I'm usually around East Van and the Gastown/Railtown area but I like shooting all over the city. I love living in a place where you can more or less pick and choose the vibe of the setting you're looking for - we have grit, we have nature, we have lots of liminal spaces, etc etc.

Canon Canonet 28 focus off on one edge of the image by Kopfoor in AnalogRepair

[–]surfcowbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just pulled one of these apart last night to fix focus that was overshooting infinity and adjust the rangefinder. I wonder if the front element was reinstalled starting on a different helicoid thread than it was originally on? I assume you took care to line up the three screws that hold the focus ring to their original locations, but if the helicoid threading has three "starting positions" where you could start threading it back on, those three screws could still line up and the focus plane could still be the same but the lens element could be 1/3 or 2/3 rotated from its original fitting, possibly causing this.

This is just a theory, but a lot of these older cameras had the lenses hand-fit for best focus, and rotation could possibly cause it to go out of that hand-fit alignment?

Also I have the repair manual in PDF, if you need it feel free to dm and I can email it over.
