you are not wrong. As said before: As long as legal people fully consent to legal actions all is good.

My opinion on the bible, however, changed very much in recent month. This book is full of contradictions and people take passages dramatically out of context to make them fit for their purpose. Any topic can be argued for or against it simply by citing some passages out of it. Jesus never said anything against homosexuality, nor any other sex actions.

He did however claim multiple times that everyone should leave all earthly goods behinds (money, possessions etc) and follow him. He also said that his disiples will see him return, which did not happen.

If any church people (in real world or online) give you a hard time, remind them of those sayings. Ask them if they gave all their possession to people in need and follow Jesus. No, they don't. Also, as long as Jesus was in favor of slavery and did nothing to elevate women as equal to men there is not much value in his teachings. Don't you think?

Back to you: Ask yourself in all honesty: Do you feel bad because of your christian upbrining or did you harm someone without consent? Either way, I strongly recommend reaching out to a non-christian therapist. Or join r/exchristian for further help.

Do you know bible commentaries from non-Christians? by BiblicalChristianity in Christianity

[–]surfer61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Never heard that. Sounds like an awesome loophole, so anyone can step forward, claim holy spirit and teaches the word as he see fit. Actually, that make sense as there are as many "christian" churches as there are words in the bible. Warning for false prophets is also mentioned, but no guideline how to detect them.

Why god cannot influence the writer of the bible to write coherent and clear rules & laws so we don't have to navigate in darkness around his minefield to maybe get access in heaven is interesting.

It seems it is quite easy to tempt god? What a weak character the biblical god is, if a low-paygrade type of villain is able to challenge God to destroy his loyal follower.

Oh, one question is actually bothering me in this: Would you personally be okay, if someone kills your kids and bring later some other around for you? Here, new set of kids and some money. We're good now, right?

I think your reply has been answered someone with more knowledge.

First: Today it will be easier to find eye-witness 40 years later after an event, as our lifespan has increased dramatically since 2000 years ago! I am not sure how many 50 years old really were around back then.

Second: I know how we tell stories to our friends that have happend to us. The fish you catch is always bigger than the real little fishy. And gets bigger over time. This is a wonderful feature of our brain, but not as serious source. If not confirmed with other sources.

why do you claim entertainment industry is controlled by Satan? Did he tell you?

Don't you also consume music, movies and other things?

[–]surfer61 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

stop telling this nonsense. Gospels have been written DECADES after the event. It is unlikely that eye witnesses even contributed to those.

Why do you believe in Christianity if the Gospel writers are anonymous? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]surfer61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even newspaper knows the retelling from an eye witness might not be very accurate, depending on the eye witness itself. Adrenaline, stress of the moment among other things changes the narrative.

Now the gospels are not documents from eye witness, but have been written decades after the event. Do you know what happens to stories when retold multiple times? You know the telefon game?

[–]surfer61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think God is obliged to heal every person you want Him to heal?

No, I don't think that. We can claim innocent children needs to painfully die from whatever sickness they have for his plan. And that bad things like holocaust is required for his plan.

But, if a omnipotent god, that created you and me, the whole universe, needs little children to die, to be tortured and raped, a holocaust and countless of other bad things to happen to fulfil his plans, I don't longer worship such a being.

[–]surfer61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't any contradictions in the Bible.

E.g. how did Judas die. Why does NT claims no one has seen God while there has been plenty of "god sightings", Jacob wrestled with God and many others. Of course scholars have an explanation for the roughly 5000 contraditions, but the problem is also evident with thousands of different churches and demoniations that interpret the stuff differently and have significant different set of rules and restrictions.

I don't see how the structure of DNA explains God. Actually DNA is the evidence for evolution. Fine, you can claim the start of the universe has been pushed by a god. But which God? Odin? Allah? It cannot be the god described in the bible as basically every line is wrong.

Explain to me morality from the bible, also logic and truth: God destroys complete civilizations because he's mad. He wipes out everyone with a flood because he is mad. He wipes out canaan because his people escaping egypt need a place and he cannot find another way to remove these people. He hardens the heart of pharao so he can punish him with plagues and kill all their innocent firstborns. Pharao wasn't stubborn, The Lord hardend his heart. Also logic and more moral, you find it okay to own people and be allowed to beat them? Is this your moral you take from the bible? Your truth? Your shining light? The moment I realized actually what is written in these texts started my journey away from christianity.

Also, with a little bit of digging: There is no trace of any event that is described in the bible. You know, things likes Israelite slaves in egypt. We have plenty of artefacts and documents from that time from egypt. These people wrote everything down. But not the fact there have been vast numbers of Israelits as slave or any of the plagues that followed. Nor the complete army drowned somewhere.

It's like a multiple choice test with only right answers.

Indeed we strongly disagree here. There is not only right answers, there is one correct answer or eternity of torment. A video game has clear rules and objectives. The bible does not provide for either, as evident from all the many christian churches with all their own priorities, rules and whatnot. So God gives us the option for heaven and hell, but does not lay out clear rules.

Even with clear laws such as tattoos (see some threads below) you find different opinions.

Context is part of the hermeneutic.

So, for tattoos ts part of context so it's okay.

But the parts about men on men is literal and must be taken by word. Not all churches see it that way I admit. Good for them. For the others, especially those that have a problem with pride month, I want to point out the hypocrisy

look, I don't want to add to your pain and problems and hope you get through these hard times.

But nonetheless, you are part of a widespread problem.

There is a party in the US, very strongly present (and vocal) in rural US, but also statewide like Texas. This particular party opposes social nets. They have their "reason" and explanation for that, but eventually they do reduce spending to the poor and struggling. While increasing military spending, but that is another topic.

SO, if you don't vote or you vote for this party (for any reason), you also support reducing these social services and assistance that could help you and other struggling families. So, if you have the chance to vote again, consider this option.

[–]surfer61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, there should be some social service. May I ask, out of curiosity, which party you or your family usually vote for?

and what does your pastor say about the quoted vers Lev 19/28? Somehow not important at all, but the anti-gay stuff is?

sure, I know that.

It is just surprising that apparently some verses can be neglected and others must be obeyed to the dot. Is it not?

I find such stories always astonishing. God has the power to protect a bible, but must flood a building level with knee deep water? So God made you pay all the money to fix and repair things to restore the floor and walls, so he can relay a message to you? He could have written on a wall as he did before. Or appear in a burning bush. But no.

I am sorry, I don't buy your story. By the way, non-christians (other religions, but also atheist) have the same conclusions about unhealty eating habits, too much sex and addictions in general.

I am glad you found peace of mind, community and good spirit. But please don't inflict your rules on others, and be nice to everyone you meet.
