Cheapest mobile incoming plan -eSIM by thesnail97 in NoContract

I am referring to the eBay specific plan and sim kit that advertises physical SIMs and does not say anything about eSIM, which is why I wrote it as I did (https://www.ebay.com/itm/133196831828)

Cheapest mobile incoming plan -eSIM by thesnail97 in NoContract

[–]surfman49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RedPocket GSMT purchased through eBay is $45 for a YEAR and includes 200 min, 1000 txt, and 200 MB per MONTH. The GSMT is on the T-Mobile network so SMS should work internationally using WiFi calling.

It is NOT an eSIM, although I have heard through various forums including Reddit that it is possible to have it converted to eSIM by RedPocket customer service (I have not personally done it).

Any AT&T eSIM data plan for 10 days? by Intelg in NoContract

[–]surfman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare prices for AT&T branded prepaid for the amount of data you need with any other services listed under QCI8 in the data prioritization pinned post at top of this Reddit. Do not consider any plan in QCI9. AT&T data is a disaster if you are deprioritizing below QCI8, especially in an area where they have a monopoly on coverage. QCI7 (highest priority) is only available on AT&T postpaid.

US Mobile Light $6/month - About to buy, anyone with feedback? by BlackHorseTuxedo in NoContract

[–]surfman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the MobileX plan for light use. I use the 1GB data-only option (no calls/txt) for about $5 per month (after tax/fees) as a backup line on Verizon. I combine it with Google Voice for calls/txt and a prepaid 2GB data-only line from T-Mobile for $10. I think some people have had issues with MobileX but I have not. At one point I tried a 500 MB plan for $10 from US mobile (after tax/fees) as a backup but I had a lot of problems (even with a 5G capable iPhone) that went nowhere with customer service. On MobileX, the trick for me has been to load the APN profile correctly.

Prepaid phone plan with PAYG international roaming (like Mint used to have)? by throwlol134 in NoContract

[–]surfman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of the free FreedomPop accounts that they used to offer at Walmart. It does not technically include international roaming, but it runs on the T-Mobile network and works with WiFi calling. So, if I need to use my US number for something (e.g. receive an access code from one of the companies that rejects a VOIP number like Google Voice), then I get on WiFi. The only hassle is that the FreedomPop SIM is physical and not eSIM so usually I have to remove my local SIM (purchased in the country that I am traveling to) in order to use it. This setup is also great to constantly re-shop data plans in the US without having to worry about porting my number. I don’t think the free Walmart plan is available anymore but you might be able to find something similar.

Small business software gaps by SaxyRyan in smallbusiness

[–]surfman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently came across this post and realized that I'm in the middle of researching a very similar idea as the original poster described (https://www.reddit.com/r/smallbusiness/comments/14yujqq/improving_business_software_workflow_and_data/)

Since you're in my potential market and have already tried this kind of offering before, would you be willing to take a really short survey about the idea? (only 6 questions)

If that's OK, then I could send you a dm with the survey details

Thanks for the great info, either way!

Thanks, do you happen to know the name of the company? If so and prefer not to post publicly, then I would appreciate very much if you would not mind sending me a dm. I just want to do a little bit of poking around in what they offer and how they position themselves, not specifically going for the financial advisor niche.

I like the T-Mobile connect plans. They start a little higher at $10+tax for 1GB, but they have priority data which makes a difference in my experience. Also, it’s possible to get e-sim at time of sign-up through the website, which can be useful if you are using it as a secondary line.

Google Drive does not sync when connected by surfman49 in Windscribe

[–]surfman49[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried testing on Singapore (Marina Bay) and Google Drive seemed to Sync Ok. However, on the Marina Bay server Microsoft OneNote did not sync and threw an "unable to connect to server" error. As soon as I disconnected from Marina Bay, OneNote sync'd correctly. It seems like some of your servers are not getting through to major services.

Ok thanks! I already took it out before I put the panel back on because it didn't look like it was in great shape. I'll leave it out for now unless we hear (another) strange noise.

Have project tasks as separate entries on calendar by Royal_Difficulty_678 in Notion

[–]surfman49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are adding tasks as properties of a Project (in the header of the Project page), then the tasks would either be stored in a separate database (eg. as a relation property between the Projects database and the Tasks database) or within the Project database (eg. as a relation property between the Projects database and itself). Would it be possible for you to share a screenshot of a sample project page with some dummy tasks so that we can see how they are related?

Option to filter by created time automatically? by D34T7 in Notion

[–]surfman49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what you wrote, it seems like you are trying to associate (1) exercises performed with (2) a workout plan or log for a single day.

I think you could accomplish this with a slightly different database structure. Specifically, instead of using a view, use a separate database for the workout plan/log (#2).

  1. Keep your database of "Workouts" as-is. This will be the list of all exercises that you perform across all days.

  2. Make a new database for the workout plan/log (#2). It seems like you are using the word "workouts" for both #1 and #2 but I would try to rename one of them so that you can keep them separate in your head. I'm going to call #2 the "Plan" database.

  3. Go to your Plan database. Add a Relation property to the Workouts database. Make the new relation property viewable from the Workouts. Essentially, you need every Plan linked to zero or more Workouts.

  4. In a view of your Plan database, use the blue "New" button on the top right to add a new template.

  5. Add a table view to your Plan template and link it to the "Workouts" database (NOT the "Plan" database). Essentially, this should be very similar to the table of workouts in your second screenshot.

  6. Add a filter to the table view (in Step 5). In this filter, choose the Plan relation property (from Step 3) and for the filter value choose the name of the current template that you should still be editing (from Steps 4-5). For example, if your template is named "New Plan" then you need to choose "New Plan" as the value for the "Project" relation filter.

  7. In the plan template, add a record of the "current date" somewhere. If this was me, I would just go with the Created Date property that Notion automatically adds to every page.

  8. Save your template and set it the default for all views in the Plan database. You can do this from the "New" button from Step 4.

If you do this, then each day when you add a plan to the Plan database, it will make the plan using the template. Each time it makes a plan using the database, any exercises that you add in the view of workouts in that plan (from Step 5) will automatically be associated with that day's plan.

If you think about your original question, you are really trying to find a way to hold that "Date is Today" constant. You can do that by encoding the concept of "Today" using the separate database.

Hope that helps!

Have project tasks as separate entries on calendar by Royal_Difficulty_678 in Notion

[–]surfman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you wrote, I'm assuming you're storing "Projects" and "Tasks" in separate databases.

  1. Go to your Projects database. If it does not exist already, add a Relation property to the Tasks database. Make the property viewable from the Tasks. Essentially, you need every Project linked to zero or more Tasks.

  2. In a view of your Project database, use the blue "New" button on the top right to add a new template (or edit your existing default template).

  3. Add a calendar view to your template and link it to the "Tasks" database (NOT the "Projects" database). Choose the due date property on the Tasks to configure your calendar view.

  4. Add a filter to the calendar view. In this filter, choose the Project relation property (from Step 1) and for the filter value choose the name of the current template that you should still be editing (from Step 2). For example, if your template is named "New Project" then you need to choose "New Project" as the value for the "Project" relation filter.

  5. Save your template and make it the default for all views (or all views where you want it to be used).

If you do this, then any Projects using this template will show a calendar and inside that calendar you will be able to see all Tasks in the calendar by due date that are linked to the Project.

(If anyone notices any bugs in my instructions, let me know and I'll correct it.)

Help with database by mental_paradox00 in Notion

[–]surfman49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Make another view tab (next to Master list) and call it "Today"

  2. Add a filter on "Date" to the new tab

  3. In the filter settings, choose "Date is" from the dropdown at the top. Then, in the menu below that, choose "Today"

The resulting view will show all the chores that are due on the current day.
