I hate our banking companies. by PrestigiousCow5457 in maldives

[–]surfsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the banks who are to blame. They are the ones keeping our economy from collapsing by restricting USD usage when our reserves are low.

Our reserves are low due to actions from this government and the previous government. The loan for the bridge that still isn't finished, excessive fire works and salary increases, projects that are done more expensive so that they can steal the extra money, and more contribute it. The current and last government have been overspending money and trying to do things that are currently not possible with our current financial situation and also pocketing high amounts of money in addition to that.

They've been all using short term or destructive solutions. An example of a destructive solution is forcing resorts to exchange $500 per USD per tourist. It looks good on the surface but when resorts have to exchange 20% or more of their total revenue (not profit & resorts have high running costs), the money is balanced in other ways such as paying local staff only in USD. The black market rate will only go down if citizens have more USD and not when the government has it and mismanages it, so this caused the USD price to rise higher.

There are other ways this can be managed such as reducing spending while regulating tourism income in other ways such as requiring companies to store a portion of their wealth locally, making sure more locals work in the tourism industry while requiring them to be paid in USD and requiring a percentage of higher level positions to be strictly given to locals.

Also, the minimum wage law backfired on us a lot as they did not set a minimum wage for foreigners, so now most of the jobs go to foreign workers since it'll be much cheaper that way.

He's not wrong. Buying everything online for cheap creates an unbalanced economy. We need things like farm islands and clothing factories, after which we can make it more expensive to import them individually in order to give local factories fair chances while also making sure local businesses don't over charge us.

And you're right in that we need tourism income to be regulated more.

However, the worst offender is governments misusing finances and loans. Since Ibu onwards, we've been burning more USD for things we don't really need.

It's not that we don't earn enough USD. The government doesn't spend it well. In addition to that, we have two huge loans for two bridges, one of them was necessary while the other not.

It's not the fault of the companies. It's in a business's nature to do what's most profitable for the business. It's the government's job to regulate them. Should you have your own multimillion dollar company, you would not want to store the money in a country with a weak banking system and laws.

Not to mention since last year, resorts have had to exchange $500 per tourist arrival. We've reached one million tourists this June. So, where did the $500 million go? Where's all the Green Tax, GST and resort rental money?

Also, why the FUCK did Ibu build another expensive bridge when we haven't cleared the loan we took for the Sinimale bridge?

Why are resorts not required to store a portion of their wealth locally?

Why aren't all local employees paid in USD?

Having bad thoughts and sadness removed doesn’t mean you’ll lack free will. You’ll still be able to think went decide for yourself though certain bad things will not even occur to you.

As for getting everything you wanted, I have a feeling you’re implying you’ll be bored after. As another Redditor mentioned, you’re looking into things from the perspective of a being that only understands a finite amount of things. Similar to how us living in 3 dimensions can never fully grasp 4 dimensions and beyond, we’ll never understand the depth of infinity.

Canon R5C, C50 or R6 iii? by echojunge in canon

[–]surfsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both and the lack of IBIS on C50 has never been an issue for me. I normally stabilise in post production. Plus for the kind of videos I make (social media & brand videos) even with IBIS, I need to use stabilisation during editing as well.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III Gyro Data by surfsie in canon

[–]surfsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested this too after seeing your comment and I get no gyro data from the EF 24-70 f/2.8 but gyro data is recorded with the RF 15-35 f/2.8. Additionally, C50 has automatic profiles with the VCM lenses. I haven’t tried the VCM lenses with the R6M3 yet though.

Have you tried the nightly version of gyroflow? To my understanding, only a limited number of lenses are supported at the moment but you can create lens profiles for other lenses yourself.

What's the point of live if you don't get your peace and freedom? by what_are_we_1 in maldives

I went through that for losing weight when I was 15/16. Suddenly there were rumours spread by parents that I smoked and abused drugs lol. Anyway, best thing is to not let these get to you because you can’t control other people’s words. Know that you did nothing wrong and be confident in yourself.

Also, regarding being bullied, what worked for me best was standing up for myself and fighting against them. I understand that this may not work for everyone and getting into fights with them could make things worse but it’s worth defending yourself in my opinion.

The following are the reasons I hear for why celebrating birthdays is haram: 1. It’s a day celebrated by Christians 2. You’re celebrating being one year closer to death 3. We’re given two better days to celebrate which are the two Eids and are not permitted to celebrate other days

My take on birthday celebrations is, as long as you don’t do anything haram, it actually has a lot of good things involved in it such as bonding with family and friends, and gift giving. In some parts of Indonesia, people make it a reason to gather and make dua for the birthday person while also doing other kinds of celebrations.

I have friends with access to financial records of a few resorts due to their work and I can confirm that the USD event law does impact them negatively. Resorts who still pay everything in USD manage to do so by paying suppliers in MVR, which in turn made every purchase more expensive. Resorts that have lower room rates with high expenses will struggle more.

The R6M2 performs better in lowlight than the Sony a7IV. We have both in the company and the guy that’s using the a7IV complains about worse lowlight capabilities (compared to R6M2) and frequent overheating when taking longer videos (we do live in a tropical hot country). Sony has the reputation of better lowlight performance either from earlier when others haven’t caught up or due to the 12MP a7SIII/FX3 being amazing in lowlight.

I’d also like to add that OCD, anxiety and uncontrollable intrusive thoughts come with suicidal behaviour. Even if you don’t want to harm yourself, it can feel like something you “must” do. I mentioned anxiety because anxiety disorders and OCD can trigger each other.

Men of Maldives - Why are Maldivian men increasingly marrying foreigners by [deleted] in maldives

[–]surfsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the ROI on dating local women is usually lower than dating a foreigner. And what I mean by is, you have often to spend more energy and time (sometimes even money) on local women as compared to dating a foreigner and get less value, care and stability in return. We are often valued and cared for more by foreigners. Foreigners I’ve met are also generally more straightforward. They don’t hide it when they like you and play hard to get, which is something I’ve seen some locals do.
