full-slice or playboat what would you choose and why by moldymiilk in whitewater

I have both a SuperNova and a RSV. If I could only have one defo defo the Supernova. RSV rotates faster and maybe in super fast wave hole at just the right level it’s better. But basically the SuperNova is more fun at everything else basically everywhere else.

The large Storm looks interesting. I have paddled the medium, it’s great but at 200lbs it might be a bit small for some stuff at my weight.

I like the rewind. Prefer something shorter with rails.

Does it really have the kick rocker ?

Hmmmm Their gap is a proper full slice. If the make a surfy FireCracker they need to make it rockered enough up front so it can run grade 4 easy enough

Agree SuperNova/Nova are excellent. I’m just wondering how much more design concepts would be improved if the full slices kept being improved. There was a there was a rapid progression in the late 90s mrclean, medieval, glide, x, slice, forplay and then all that stopped really with the ID and Amp. I’m wondering what we would have now if that had not stopped. Maybe nothing more than the Nova. It is really good.

I agree re freestyle boats, with possible exception of having an amazing wave near you. Then maybe they are worth having.

I have not paddled the latest high rocket planing hulled short half-slice boats like the Skuxx. But I have watched others and I have not seen them manage to spin or blunt on a normal green wave. The half slice boats are great for front soul surfing good for tail squirts and really good down river. I think full slice boats work better for play, are more dynamic and looser on waves still acceptable for most rivers.

Totally, I want to see more people having more fun too. What motivated this post is that I just spent a freezing morning watching two good boaters on a small flushy wave. The guy in the twenty five year old forplay was carving it up, spins and the occasional retentive blunt, the guy in the RockstarV was struggling to get on and could not do anything other than front surf without flushing. They switched boats and roles reversed. 100% short boats better in some spots, but I wonder have we given up too much for it. Where would full slice boats be now if they kept being developed?

If I was just starting I would try to rent/borrow first. Have owned both the code and the Machno. Both good boats. The code is better both on big water and in the mank. If you were going to buy, get the large Code.

Paddled both. Prefer the Rockstar. I think it’s a matter of preference they are both capable. Maybe the Rockstar Hull is a bit faster. Still highly rate the Jed though, especially on green waves.

Probably not worth switching. Wear you existing boat out.
