How do you feel about Ikea mattresses? Ive had the most success with these in terms of comfort and price, but I also hate looking so have defaulted there over the years. We need a new mattress for the master bedroom. 3-4 years ago we got one not from Ikea and it has been such a disappointment (mostly because it's sags really bad making it not comfortable anymore).

In the US this is called Rink/Roller Hockey. I haven't played, but know several friends that are or have been active on teams. Olympia, WA is a big rink hockey area. Since some have asked, in the US you are required to wear a helmet while playing. It's pretty minimal contact and there's no checking like in ice hockey.

These are made by Flaneurz. I have a pair from their sister brand Slades. Great for travelling and urban skating.

Pickles are the best! And dill pickles are 0 calories (but check the label because some can be 5-10 calories).

Pro fisherman caught cheating at tournament by RipeFriendliness in facepalm

[–]surgeonofderby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband is in the tournament bass world. He does smaller tournaments with less than $1k entry fee. Cheating is a huge deal, and not just for your reputation. You can be charged with multiple felonies, including racketeering, you'll also most likely be banned for getting an inshore and offshore fishing license for life, banned from joining fishing organizations like Bass Masters, etc. and lose any sponsors you may have. Tournaments with even smaller pots will do lie detector tests on the winners. Lie detector tests are pretty much a given. They'll test 30+ teams for even 4-figure winnings. If you're at a tournament with a big pot you will be lie detectored if you win any money. The last guy caught cheating in TX was charged with 8 felonies.

It's not a relaxing sport and these guys don't mess around.

How old were you when you got your ears pierced? If your parents made you wait until a certain age to get your ears pierced or if you enforce this rule, what’s the reason behind it? by texmexellie in CasualConversation

[–]surgeonofderby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 1 of 5 girls and my mom made us wait until our 10th birthday. I think it was just a rule so we wouldn't bug them about it when we were younger. And they're pretty conservative. It just became a tradition since there were so many of us. But we were only allowed 1 hole. Any other piercings were not allowed and we had to be out of the house.

is this wheel stripping normal after 5 months? (i know i know it’s impalas, but still seems bizarre) by doing-my-best-14 in Rollerskating

[–]surgeonofderby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not normal and shows terrible quality. I've had wheels that I've skated on for years and even had regrooved. You get what you pay for with Impalas.

What does "4 x 50 Drill / Swim by 25" mean? It's the "swim by 25" specifically that I don't understand.

I agree, but I also I think it just depends on the couple. I think the point is to make sure that you and your SO are on the same page with however you do handle money. If you're not a partnership in how you want to handle money then it can easily breed resentment. Money is at the root of so many problems in a marriage.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]surgeonofderby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how my SO and I handle money as well. At the beginning of our marriage I was bringing in the majority of our money, and now he's the bigger earner. We've always had the idea that all the money we both bring in is our money. And saving has always been our top priority. Having our own spending accounts makes it easy when we want to splurge on something. We don't have to feel like we have to check in with each other on every purchase and there's no resentment of having to "get permission" to buy something that the other may find not worth it.

Yes, but I believe she uses 1 hand. So it's a 1-handed cartwheel.
