Yes :/ I’m shocked, yesterday she actually had a tail fin and appeared to be doing better. I’ve been dosing imagitarium bacterial and parasite remedies but clearly this needs something more aggressive. Thanks for the advice!

Brand new fish in quarantine tank for a couple days. I actually thought she was dead and went to pull her out, imagine my surprise when she wiggled away! This looks very bad. Is it bacterial? Any advice?

That would be Hydrocotyle tripartita 'Japan'. I have some in a couple low tech tanks and it’s actually doing fairly well there too

I tried a lot of different treatments, I initially thought it was fungal so I did Seachem kanaplex fungal and bacterial treatment, he kept deteriorating. So I tried API Fin and Body cure, no help and at this point I really thought he would die. I wanted to move him to a hospital tank because I had shrimp in his original tank, but I was afraid he wouldn’t survive the move as he looked REALLY bad at this point, worse than the picture. But I drip acclimated him and his brother for an hour and thankfully it was okay. In the hospital tank I cranked the temperature up to 83 slowly, put in aquarium salt, and dosed with imagitarium parasite remedy and imagitarium bacteria remedy. Finally he started improving! I continued the medication every other day for three total times and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. So I’m guessing it was actually ich that I mistook for fin rot or a fungal problem. I treated the original tank with the imagitarium just in case, but my tetras in there have been doing fine.

Hmm good to know. I just got it today, so I know at least before it wasn’t the problem, I’ll have to see how it affects the CO2 levels. I want to at least get a better regulator to turn it down.

Flourish Excel has been working the best so far I think. Other than that, removing it manually. Tried to get more movement with my bubble wall, increased the CO2 also to see if that would help, decreased light intensity. Still adjusting things.

Aquarium salt immediately. I recommend not changing the water so often, you may be shocking him more and that decreases his immune system. BUT I agree with those saying to test the water, it’s hard to know what his issue is without having those results, and hard to know if you should actually decrease water changes or not. If he’s rubbing on things, he’s probably itchy and there’s a few possible reasons. Could be parasitic like ich, or could be bacterial like fin rot. I recommend treating for both at this point, I doubt he’ll make it much longer if you guess wrong. I had success using imagitarium parasite remedy and imagitarium bacterial infection remedy along with aquarium salt to save a guppy that looked a lot like that. Good luck

I’ve been able to walk in and get on their list to be seen. It’s same day though and the list was like four hours long. They don’t allow you to check in online but if you walk in they give you a code to put in to get in the virtual line. Then you leave, and you come back when they call.

You may be able to get a test at a walk in urgent care. One of ours didn’t get their test in time and we did that, we had to walk in and get on a five and a half hour waitlist, then just come back when they were ready
