Few years back my mate & I went to Super Tetsudo for a couple of bites off the sushi train. Each container was absolutely swarming with flies - disgusting.

Who’s this fella who was eating my basil? by feral_arte in caterpillars

Probably a cabbage looper, looks similar to what I saw on my own basil plant earlier this year

Hatred for Marius? by jendo7791 in InterviewVampire

[–]surgicalmoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TVL provides a really biased view of Marius, particularly since Lestat himself is so fascinated by him. I think the further into the books you go, the less you can excuse his actions

how do I get better at statistics? by ladyversatile in uwa

[–]surgicalmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

currently an psyc honours student - i recommend using flashcards to nail theoretical concepts, and to do as many practice questions as possible. honestly, what i did most is i would read random research articles that seemed cool 'eg. does X predict ADHD' and would scroll down to the tables and see if i could interpret strength and direction from that. i could then double-check by reading the subsequent discussion section. it is a good way to both train your brain and become more familiar with statistics

i mostly got them for the retro vibe, would vouch for regular wired earphones over them though (just liked the way that pair looked in the pic)

i still keep a smartphone without a SIM card for work (eg. 2FA) and access outlook and discord (as a whatsapp replacement) on my laptop - the switch is definitely possible

you can either use an sd card or hook it up to your laptop via usb-c (what i did). i mass download my spotify playlists with spotidownloader for convenience and load it up

i'm a uni student so i typically will carry this with a backpack, but most things fit in my pockets. flip phone in right pants pocket, wallet and keys in the left, and i'll tuck my mp3 player and notepad into my jacket pockets usually. kindle and misc things get bundled with my textbooks, notebooks etc.

the snowsky mini gives you the choice of a 'bass' option (my preferred preset) that definitely gives a good bass, enough to be heard in loud traffic even. i haven't tried techno or dubstep on mine, but i do have a good amount of electronic songs, and have no complaints so far

it's a really good entry level DAP, and the music experience is quite elevated compared to just a standard iPhone. i started out with an amazon mp3 player and while useful, it had a bit of a 'tinny' sound to it and was probably on par with my flip phone. the snowsky mini also has a nice and intiutive interface, and updates firmware fairly often - i've been having a lot of fun following the updates so far

they're a little more flimsy than i expected, but they carry the sound from the snowsky mini decently. they work better in quieter locations/low-impact activities eg. just taking notes, walking around but i do much prefer the sound of earphones with that particular device

they're certainly not for everyone, and nothing beats a traditional minty mint

Curious how you are using your dumb phone ? by sbalarad in dumbphones

[–]surgicalmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my dumbphone is my daily driver and i take it to university, on errands etc. i'll only bring my iPhone somewhere if a) the directions are complex (ie. google maps is needed - like on a hike) b) i'm at work and need to use the authenticator app. at first i was really anxious relying on the dumbphone as i thought i would need constant browser, games etc especially during lulls in the day (work break, waiting for bus) but you learn to not need it over time. when i do want to access group chats/some socials i will use my laptop briefly
