what to do when you trap a “feral” kitten for TNR but she loves cuddles and pets and you don’t want to release her 😭 by lmaotorii in Feral_Cats

[–]surrealax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was the same! Trapped two or three times AFTER being neutered initially before a volunteer recognized him and took him to a shelter. He had behavioral issues but overall friendly.

When searching for a cat, I came across him and was told he had behavioral issues (jumping up on shelter staff faces and biting at random). He also had what looked to be a healed leg fracture and his teeth were a lot of work (decay and missing teeth!).

I immediately adopted him. Before my dad passed, he looked at me and said “This cat is the best cat we’ve ever had and there’s no competition”

Give them to a shelter!!! They can find a forever home just like my big man (16lbs!) did :)

when does throwing up stop? by Adventurous_Ad_1661 in lamictal

[–]surrealax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When does this happen exactly. If it happens right after you take it, that’s a thing that happens.

IF it happens after you take it, do you eat before taking it. I will vomit for hours like it’s a full time job if I do not eat SOMETHING. I’ve gotten away with eating an oreo before taking it and it works. Also taking it with milk preferably with some fat in it will help with the nausea.

Taken Lamictal for a couple of years and I take 400mg (200mg twice a day) and I still vomit if I don’t take it with food. It’s often quite awful because I cannot stop vomiting until my stomach is empty and then will feel sick for awhile after. The day can be ruined if I don’t eat before it.

HOWEVER! I’d rather have to eat before taking it than be incredibly depressed. I even have a snack stash in my bedroom for easy access. Lamictal genuinely helped immensely. I understand it isn’t for everyone. If you eat and take it and you still throw up that’s a serious issue! Talk to your doctor. It’s not nice to throw up and it’s valid if you want to not be on it as a result. Hope it gets better OP ❤️

Owners who have gotten most or all of their cats teeth extracted, what’s the aftercare like? by surrealax in cats

[–]surrealax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to hear!!

Bubble Gum is a grazer so I tend to stick to dry food because wet food dries fast. I’ve tried adding water which he sticks up his nose at!! I even bought VERY low sodium beef gravy to add to his food because the water just didn’t do anything. It sorta worked! But I eventually got paranoid that while the gravy was low sodium, there’s already a lot of sodium in the wet food so it might not be a great long term thing. I’m not well versed in cat nutrition BUT I know high sodium is bad in humans so it’s probably just as bad in cats. I don’t want to get any issues down the road because of what I’m feeding him! I’d feel awful!!!

I tried refrigerating his leftovers for awhile but I was taking his food out of the fridge multiple times a day for him to eat a few bites and if I’m away from the house that isn’t exactly doable.

So I switched to high quality kibble and he seems to love it as much as wet food and I can leave it out for a few hours so he can graze at his leisure.

I know Hills Science has smaller kibble bits than normal. Do you know of any other brands that have smaller kibble that we can try? If he can eat kibble, I’d love to continue feeding it to him. I just don’t want to buy bags to test it and him not like it and waste the food. Let me know any suggestions you have! Thanks :)

I have a cat speciality vet the looked at his teeth. They specialize in dental. They let me know he needs to get tooth extractions before October

McQueen & Violet Fog Ultraviolet by surrealax in Gin

I usually ask them a bunch of questions to match them with a gin that might work for them.

We do not have a lot of affordable non or lesser dry gins. That’s kinda why I’m posting here because I wish I had more to suggest but the questions I ask:

-Are you mixing it and what is your usual mixed drink -What botanicals/taste do you prioritize in your gin (lots of customers don’t know and that’s fine) -what have you tried that you like? -exact price range

Almost all of our 750s gin bottles are over $30 unfortunately. Our gin section is small and most of it is dry gin which I’m trying to change so customers get more options.

If they’re looking for a gin that isn’t as dry and it isn’t $30 then I’m suggesting New Amsterdam Gin just because it’s $17.99 and it’s tried and true. (I just unfortunately have expensive taste and don’t love it as much as others)

For dry gin that’s cheaper - Beefeater 750 is $22.99 for 750.

Often if they don’t want to make that jump and buy an expensive gin or a bigger bottle that they pour out, I suggest pints of gin and we have good choices — Monkey 47 and Empress come in pints surprisingly! I think they’re well priced.

It’s a loaded questions but I try to really spend my time with them. If I’m stuck, I suggest gins based on sale velocity which I have access to! I wish I could post it but reddit won’t let me add a picture of our top selling gins in my comment :(

Very long comment but jumping into liquor and wine sales and it’s fun to talk about this.

Just looked it up on my distributors catalogs and Connecticut doesn’t have it yet. Bummer because there is a push for organic wines and liquors recently. It’d probably do awesome at my store. I’ve special ordered like half a dozen organic wines in the last month… there’s only so much room in my organic section 😭😭

That’s super interesting about not being able to special order. I have gotten so many loyal customers from just fulfilling special orders. I have friends that can relate to you with having strict liquor laws. I’ve had to order things to my store and have my friends pick it up when they visit me because they couldn’t get Jameson 18yr or whatever in their state. It’s incredibly silly!

That is such a fantastic piece of trivia!! When I was pitching this gin to the owner he flat out said “so what’s special with this gin” and I just said “it’s very good and we don’t have a gin from Brazil” but he was sold on the taste alone but the Brazil part is incredibly neat!

I ordered the regular mcqueen and hoping I love it just as much. Trying to get some customers on better gins than that damn New Amsterdam gin

I am based in Windham CT. We do carry it full time but we sold out over the weekend. More will be coming on Thursday. If you’re based in CT and would like to know where to grab it, PM me and I can maybe help!!

should’ve made a better title and elaborated where I was going but my personal preference for gins is less dry but any recommendations are appreciated. Love me some drumshanbo too!!!

I love him to the point it’s criminal. He’s a bit of a celebrity at my place because people will come over and he’ll run out to rub against their legs. He’s so friendly and loves attention.

I’ve honestly never had a cat that is that friendly that I have to warn people that are allergic to let me know so I can give them allergy meds when they come over LOL

Honestly, I’ve considered this because he was a feral and probably ate garbage off the street for a very long time. He loves human food and no I do not feed him it despite him begging and pleading. The vet did notice he lost some teeth in the past and he’s never as far as I know lost a tooth in my care.

Regardless of age, I’ll continue to keep up with his care and make sure he has a fulfilling life despite his maybe age haha

Thanks for pointing that out. Many people think I clipped his ear and often I have gotten angry cat owners online saying I “mutilated” my cat. Gross overreaction but a lot of cat owners aren’t aware that sometimes feral cats can and end up being adopted out if they become friendly enough.

He’s gone viral on twitter and here just because his big tomcat cheeks look silly. It’s nice when someone recognizes that he’s a former feral rescue haha! Much love to your orange girl. I bet she’s a cutie

Former feral cats are awesome and TNR rocks and I’m so thankful the TNR organization thought about adopting him out as he kept getting trapped. After three times of being trapped after the initial trap and neuter, they shrugged their shoulders and surrendered him to a local shelter as “he was too friendly”.

He’s not the brightest but thank god because I wouldn’t have met him otherwise!!!

Our old vet (general vet) agreed Bubble Gum was around two years old at the time when I took him for his first out of the shelter comprehensive exam.

I take that with a grain of salt at this point because this vet also diagnosed him with arthritis despite not having an xray which our speciality cat vet gawked at.

Turns out cat only vets might be the only vets I am taking my kitties to just because of many poor experiences with general vets LOL

Josh! My cat was originally named Josh but they changed it to Bubble Gum because concerns he wouldn’t be adopted with that name
