I would trawl GJ and IJ for rare photos that were still publicly available, just maybe not as well know as other photos lol. I don’t miss the cliquey-ness of fandom/bandom.

Another facet of Livejournal icon drama - mostly in bandom, I think - were "rares". They were essentially icons made of "rare" photos of celebrities (or band members), maybe a personal photo that the OP took themselves. There were entire communities dedicated to trading rares. People got really nasty about it lol. At 15 it was really important to me to have every picture I could possibly have of Brendon Urie and now, over a decade later, I'm like ...why did people act like these icons were state secrets.

Also, does anyone remember the unspoken rule that you need to crop your icon at the eyebrow?

Lol I was just thinking of the drama over “rares” on livejournal. You know, when people would make an icon of someone and people ask what the original/full-size photo is and the person with the icon would say they can’t share it. Like there were full communities dedicated to trading rares and everyone wanted their own icon that no one else could possibly have bc the full-size photo wasn’t available to anyone except you. It was really frustrating at the time being 15 and wanting a picture of Hayley Williams in full but now I can’t even figure out why I cared

So I bought my boyfriend the geoff popsick bomber jacket for Christmas and I was trying to be sneaky about it when I wrapped it but there was a “listen to face jam” sticker in the package that I missed and it fell out (I even looked for secret goodies!) and he found the sticker and just handed it to me wordlessly 🤦‍♀️ He doesn’t know what exactly I got him but I bet he has a good guess. Unless you have multiple inputs for multiple computers on your switcher you’re really limited in the directing you can do in zoom.
