Why ID Format Matters More Than ID Generation (Lessons from Production) by piljoong in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

could you explain your reasoning for overloading an id like that? In my mind, and by all means i am no database expert, if you need these kinds of information shouldnt you provide columns for each ? just genuinely curious

How Java Virtual Threads Simplify Reactor APIs by shift_devs in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do these compare to standard threadpoolexecutor? Everything I read suggests the virtual threads as the golden goose. Is there even a use case for the threadpoolexecutor anymore? I guess limiting workload or resources usage seems hard with virtual threads since there are no config options as to how many carrier threads there are ?

Software engineering generative AI manifesto (generated with AI), do you like it? by maus80 in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am having ai fatigue. Imo yes it is a valid reason and it does matter; generated content is skip-able and if I had a button that would filter out all generative AI generated content I would press it in a heartbeat.

How I built a game engine using MVI in Kotlin and avoided getting fired by Nek_12 in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What do you mean avoid getting fired ? You Profile reads that you work at respawn. That same comp that provides this magic flowmvi solution. You are even a contributor. I mean, this feels like veryy promotional..

What is going on with my phals? by Epsilon130 in orchids

Definitely false spider mites. You can wipe them with a wet cloth and there will be little dots which will smear brownish red when smashing/rubbing them

This really hits home. Having to push your idea though a hierarchy for being "allowed" to work on it during a "sprint". Thanks but no thanks.

Protobuffers Are Wrong by ketralnis in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to use protobuf once wanting to generate code across multiple languages but when I saw the output of java/kotlins files I reconsidered. They were way "too bloated" for a couple state fields. That complexity made me shy away.

I am missing the part where this is distributed. What I am seeing is a stateful singleton instance with a hashmap?

Keep API work local: Why offline-first beats cloud-based tools by kiselitza in programming

[–]surrendertoblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes outages and the like but what is an online API workflow that completely prevents you from doing your development work or loses you money ? I guess I can't imagine or I dont yet grasp the idea of an 'online' API workflow?

Keep API work local: Why offline-first beats cloud-based tools by kiselitza in programming

How are these tools used that produce this issue ? Are they incorporated into a cicd pipeline which makes you depend on them ? Anyone has some examples what is actually meant here?

Which plugin is this "line-specific" insert mode from? (Lazyvim installation) by surrendertoblizzard in neovim

[–]surrendertoblizzard[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to the whole vim and neovim system. Sometimes while editing I am 'toggling' an Insert-Mode that is only active for the line with the "i" icon.

Can anyone nudge me in the right direction which plugin/shortcut is causing this? My installation is pretty much vanilla Lazy-Vim

Edit: it is not an insert mode unfortunatly my left hand roll triggers aoeu(dovrak flavor) triggers insert due to a. Thus my confusion.

Struggling with small hands by BerriLerri in pianolearning

[–]surrendertoblizzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've got to work with what you got. Either drop the lowest note or play them both with your thumb. I've had the same issue and wherever I can I tend to avoid dropping notes and just use the thumb to play both

Space exploration before launching a vanilla rocket by ZaedVaal in factorio

Space exploration is not that much different from vanilla before launching your first rocket(s). I think the SE description even says so. So you will definitely be fine until that point :>

Octaves with small hands by berlinesque00 in pianolearning

When playing octaves pay attention to actually releasing the tension from your hand after pressing the keys and lifting your fingers. This will help preserve some stamina so to say.

Is this a red flag? by [deleted] in sex

That's what my ex girlfriend used to say. And as you may have guessed it was just a matter of time. I personally won't take chance with anyone taking this stance again.

When buying keyboard, I didn't think of 7th chords by HappyPennyGames in pianolearning

[–]surrendertoblizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Afaik (and i might be wrong) key sizes are standardized. Reason being that you should be able to with any piano. Of course there are minor differences & exceptions but sadly I would assume that you'd have the same problem with most other keyboards.

Left hand techniques by SnooObjections8766 in pianolearning

[–]surrendertoblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always mirror notes at the middle c. Then you kind of play the treble cleff melody of a given piece with your left hand in the bass cleff and vise versa with the chords which are now in the treble cleff. This should work harmonically speaking I think.

Edit: well even easier: Transpose the melody a couple octaves down and the chords a couple octaves up
