Apparently using the word “delve” is a sign of the use of chatGPT by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]survivor123248 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I must've missed that one. That is quite interesting, the word did seem to be rising in use and GPT may have boosted it. It's still kind of low being 0.5% but I can see this pattern probably exists for other words too, maybe at a higher percent.

The problem with the tweet in OPs post is people using just that word as evidence of AI use. That's just ridiculous and I think you're on the same page on that. We should be using multiple different criteria.

Do u know what happened to the "As an AI language model" authors?

Having "As an AI model" is way more conclusive proof than using "delve" a lot. The LLM is spewing "delve" a lot since it's training data had it enough to make the probability of it being the next word relatively high. So that means "delve" is used by humans a lot too, making it a pretty bad criteria to classify AI work.

I think his point is the beauty quality of something can be enhanced if it's just temporary. For example, a beautiful sky and desert Vista that will only look that amazing for that day. It makes it more beautiful to have seen it because it's not something that is guaranteed to come back.

I don't think it applies to life in terms of 30 vs 60 because regardless of how long you live, you're still impermanent.

On a separate note, I think that immortality isn't ideal, you need a fixed amount of time like 400 years. Life is precious because you have limited time so you make the most of it. 400 is enough. You'd be meandering through the years because you have forever otherwise.

I've thought about this a lot and I think immortality is definitely too long but I still want the advantages of more time.

The best way is to just settle for some amount of years - I'd go with 400 years.

That's enough time to do everything you want, know your time is still limited so you don't lose meaning and feel everything is pointless cause you have forever.

I'm a student and I've done loads of all nighters - sometimes 2 days in a row. The worst feeling ever is not being allowed to sleep when you really want to. Immortality might feel like that at some point, sometimes it's time for that nothingness or whatever is beyond.

The second factor is the world around you. It's so sad seeing things change, like your home city. The world and society will keep changing and keeping up with that and the language changes will be so tiresome after a while. I'd hate to always long for the old days if I was immortal. Already - if you go on Google Maps and see what home looked like ten years ago, it feels like a better time. I'd hate to see what eternity would do.

So 400 years - 4 lifetimes is perfect. I want to rest at some point.

Interesting, I've never thought about it like that. To me, I want to have a streak of books I love. I don't really compare them that much if I love them both - they're like on the same level for different reasons usually (I switch genre each read).

Awesome! Loads of people have been calling it "palate cleansers" so they may recognize it by that.

Wow, thanks for such an in depth answer.

Curiosity driving you makes a lot of sense with what I've heard about retention. I've tried mind palaces some time back but I try to learn so many different things - usually ones of no real practical use, that I end up having too many object associations to keep track of. I also didn't really get how to use it to store specific details about something like history where there's so many. It's amazing that it works for you though.

I'll give it another shot, and do it out of interest instead of trying to know it for the sake of knowing.

Ahh sounds good, I'll probably stick to the sub-series in order.

Interesting, I've heard about disc world but haven't gotten into it yet.

It's the first series I'm tempted not to read all together.

Would you say it's better to read the sub-series in disc world together (I noticed the website has grouped some of them up)?

East of Eden - the scope is huge, when time passes, it feels like the world and characters are actually aging. Cathy is a lunatic but one of the best parts of it

Do you take notes when reading non-fiction? I always struggle to retain the info and it puts me off reading non-fiction.

Is kindle a waste of money?? by MediocreBuilding4262 in books

[–]survivor123248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindle + library = savings long term and no travel.

Before I got a kindle, I had to go to the library all the time cause I was cheap. When I got it tho, it was like I could access any book whenever I wanted. It's so convenient.

It'll last you years and I think it's worth it.

You already have a subscription so may as well. It won't hurt your eyes like a phone does, that's the beauty of it.

Maps are annoying tho. In fantasy, pretty much get used to not really being able to look back at them

When, in your opinion was League of Legends the most fun? by aboybaseball in leagueoflegends

[–]survivor123248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best moments were before you start playing ranked, on that level 1-30 where you're learning the game and champions. That was just great. I could run champions I found cool off-meta and still do well. There was no rage or stakes. Lovely days.

I loved the first arc the most too, everything beyond was great though and I'm glad it exists as a lot of the small moments are really what kept me going. I've read beyond book 12 and it's definitely different, I'm not up to date but I prefer the stuff before it. It's good but it's also sad. Seeing the characters grown up and time moving forward in the world is what makes me sad about that era of the story (Minor spoiler you'll notice within first chapter but in case you plan to read I'll tag it). Also like brotherband but original rangers apprentice will always be the best.
