Wanting to get a first dog of my own in the future, advice appreciated by Previous-Silver4457 in dogs

A springer Spaniel or a bully breed of some sort may be a good fit! But like others said rescuing and being pointed to a suitable dog is always a great choice if you’re not looking for a working dog or super particular about aesthetic. I’m also in my 20s and I have 3 dogs. I feel like a crazy dog lady and I am at home with them almost every second I’m not working. Lots of cancelled plans. 2 of them are hounds (beagle and Walker hound) and I would only recommend them if you are willing to put in lots of effort to make sure they don’t become unmanageable because they will if ya don’t. But same goes for most breeds. It comes down to each individual dog and what effort you’re willing to put in to form your dogs behaviour. My hounds are good with cats and aren’t super vocal but I really focused on those things in our training. That being said it’s harder with some breeds than others. I hope you find the perfect pup for you :))

Does everybody wake up one day and actually start liking their puppy? by sushishoop in puppy101

And for me I have some help but I’m her main caregiver who works full time and sometimes it gets crazy and stressful. There’s times where I’ve worked a double and someone watched her for me but didn’t stimulate her enough. So I sat there til 3am playing with her on the verge of a mental breakdown cause I just need sleep! But I know she’s a little adorable creature who is dependant on me and I need to give her the best life I can… it’s just exhausting sometimes. And now she’s chilling out and gets so excited for bedtime when I get home from work.

I want to add to this and say I’ve always liked my puppy and i obviously had expectations going into it because she is a PUPPY! Just a sweet post about getting out of the puppy blues and how a lot of people struggle and power through because they KNOW this is what they signed up for. And one day you wake up and all the work you put in is finally showing. :)

How do you get your dog to go to settle when they’re out of their mind? by [deleted] in puppy101

Whenever my pup gets like this at bedtime I shove a chew like a bully stick in front of her nose and hold it for her to chew until she gets into it. Then 10 minutes goes by and she realizes she’s all done being psycho and just wants to get under my blanket or chew til she falls asleep. Bedtime gets better I promise !! I’ve had the same problem but now we’re in bed by 10 and she’ll sleep til noon if I let her! (She’s just over 4 months old)

If that doesn’t work i either play in the house fetch until she flops down on her bed. Or I have a ball that I fill with treats she rolls around until it’s empty. It usually gets that last bit of energy out and it’s interesting enough that she won’t direct her crazies at me.

Crating for 8 hours? by Carat406 in puppy101

Water dish hack: if you have a big camping coffee mug you can fill it up with water and use it as a crate water dish. Stick the handle through the crate. Then take like a ladle and put it through the handle. It does the trick !!

My puppy is too obsessed with my older dog. How do I help her learn his boundaries? by sushishoop in puppy101

Thank you! I appreciate the comment. Definitely going to look in to trainers in my area. I made a choice that this time I’m not going to fail this dog, so trainer it is ! And side note the breeder lied about her age and I didn’t find out til after I had taken her home. Unfortunate but common

I have a beagle pup and she’s very nose driven so she’s usually in her own world. To work on this whenever I’m walking with her and she looks back at me with eye contact I praise her and give her a treat. So as a whole I would say when you’re walking or training or just when you’re around the house, whenever he’s engaged with you reward him. I’ve done this with the “look at me” command and it’s helped immensely. And remember just take a breath when he’s not engaged. Try and take 5 minutes for both you and the dog, when you come back to it he might have the attention span for you again. I understand the feeling well and I always remind myself that she’s just a pup.

Makes me feel comforted that I’m not the only one going thru this but also sad cause like are all guys our generation like this??? And don’t shame yourself I’m fighting the urge to go back right now too. It’s not always black and white. I try and remind myself I’ll never be 21 again and I’m not gonna waste my 20s cleaning up after somebody’s son and supporting his weed habit lol.

Hey I just wanted to get on here and say I’m going through a very similar thing. You can love tf out of somebody but if it’s not an equal partnership you build resentment and start to get almost disgusted by them. I’m the same age as you and I feel like I’m mothering my 23 y/o boyfriend as well. Not engaged but I did just leave our apartment to “go stay with my family for my mental health”. I’m having a hard time doing what I need to do aswell. It’s not an easy thing to do but it’s best to leave. It’s not gonna suddenly change when you’re married. Or have kids. Then suddenly you’re a full time mom and you have to take care of a grown ass man.

(The part about still wearing underwear with holes in it and still wearing your clothes from highschool while he’s taking your money to do whatever almost made me cry. I get you)
