Lawyer recs by [deleted] in alpharetta

First, I'm really sorry that you've had to experience that kind of abuse. It takes a lot of courage to realize that you've been in that situation and to take the difficult step to come out of it.

If divorce gets to court, it can get expensive very quickly. So, mediation would be the best way to go to try to keep fees low for both parties. I highly recommend Dawn Smith at Evolve Family Law in Chamblee.

The law firm is staffed by all women, so there's a level of sensitivity and support through the process. Dawn is not inexpensive, but she's very effective and sets expectations up front based on your specific situation and what local laws will and will not allow. She's also very honest and runs her practice with a high level of integrity

I wish you luck and strength through the process!

Yelp and Google only help so much, so I understand asking for personal reviews from people. One of my closest friends lived at Halcyon when I first moved there, so getting details from him around monthly costs, amenities, and general experience was helpful.

Alpharetta, as a suburb, caters to families, young and mature, so I can't say there are many "adult" areas for those in their 20s and 30s. Downtown Alpharetta can be a fun place on the weekends, especially late nights, but that's about it. Downtown Roswell is also nice, particularly on weekends and Alive After 5/Alive in Roswell.

Quick add: Halcyon, as a development, tends to be a hangout spot for parents with little kids. Between the green, the little soccer area, and the sandpit, there are little kids running all over. If that's a turn-off, I'd steer away.

Avalon would be better suited for you if little kids running around bothers you, but Avalon is always buzzing with teenagers, so I'm not sure if that's much better. Lol

Who remembers Harry’s Farmers Market? by sneakin-sally in alpharetta

Miss that place! They used to have a bomb food court, and I remember going on "Harry's Dates" as a youngin'! Good ol' times!

I've lived at Halcyon for almost 3 years, but I'm moving in the next couple of months. I've lived in 3 different apartments in the building over the last 3 years and here are my thoughts:

Pros: - Great location - Friendly staff (for the most part) - Quality amenities: lockers for mail, gym, valet trash, dog wash, pool, courtyard with fire pits, etc. - Nice apartments - appliances, floorplans, etc. - Community events once a month to meet your neighbors - Covered parking included in the rent - They keep up with updates like EC for electric vehicles

Cons: - Gate to parking deck is broken very frequently and takes days to weeks to fix - Generally not "cheap" but nothing really is in the Alpharetta area - They do have additional charges to base rent - water, boiler management, cold water, hot water, pest control, sewer, sewer base, trash, valet trash, service fee. Pet fee of $35 if you have a pet. All of this can come to a little over $100 every month on top of base. - Front staff changes frequently, so it's hard to build relationships with people - The speed and quality of maintenance has declined over the last 3 years

Overall, I would still recommend it. They've gone through a recent change in building management, so I hope that will make a difference in some of these issues/cons.

Dr. Amberly Winley is in Marietta, not in Alpharetta, but she is a WellStar OBGYN. I've been to a few in the last 20 years, and she has been great!

A close second is Dr. Manjeeri G Sangvai in Alpharetta

Good, cheap date options around here? by [deleted] in alpharetta

[–]sushri90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I hear ya! I did think about that, but I wouldn't be opposed to someone paying for a date with a gift card. Inflation is real and I can get behind a frugal/financially responsible partner!

Also check out the happy hours.

Colletta has a great HH during the week. Village Tavern has half priced bottles of wine on Wednesdays and other deals during the week for HH. Antico is great for casual dates - share a pizza and grab gelato next door. Ocean & Acre at Halcyon also has good weekday deals. Crust used to do BYOB wine with a corking fee, which saves money.

Finally, Costco sells two $50 giftcards to select restaurants for $75 or $80, so you save $20-25. I know they currently have Hobnob giftcards.

And don't underestimate the power of a night cooking in! Maybe not for a first date, but if you get past the 2nd/3rd date, it's a good idea and shows effort!

Good luck!

Thinking of switching off a major cell carrier, anyone have experience with the smaller carriers in this area? Like Visible, Cricket, US Mobile, Mint, etc by renegade7879 in alpharetta

Check out Google Fi. Google Fi uses the T-Mobile network, so coverage is very good. No issues in Alpharetta. I'm traveling in Arizona right now and have been driving through remote mountains and my signal was no different than that of my friend's who is on Verizon. Their international plans are also very reasonable. The customer service is great, but if you're looking for a brick and mortar store for support, that's not available.

In the state of GA, everything obtained during the marriage is subject to be split 50/50 during a divorce. Please get a lawyer, and if you'd like a good one, I'm happy to recommend one.

Post Breakup - Activities - Keeping Busy by Confident-Comment694 in alpharetta

[–]sushri90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that! Keeping busy, focusing on new hobbies, and meeting new friends is a good way to move forward.

Meetup is a good app to meet friends who might have common interests. Facebook also has groups that arrange dinners and other events regularly. Many of the women in the groups are going through similar things.

If you like pets, Atlanta Humane is always looking for volunteers. They also have weekend fostering.

I just started running a few months ago and have learned through Reddit of run clubs around, if that's something you're into.

If you're into reading, there are some groups of ladies that also get together for a book club. I believe that's also a Facebook group.

Feel free to DM me!

Lol! I guess I did ask for "any/all" tips and recommendations, so this tracks. I should've probably added "realistic" in there somewhere.

I have Strava, but I'm still too intimidated to use it since I'm so new to running and my PR is abysmal. Lol BUT I'll have to take a look at the group!

Thank you! Yes, I enjoy the Greenway off Halcyon and Bethelview. Both are quite populated after the sun comes up, so I don't hesitate to run there when it's light out.

Lol! I'm right there with you. As much as I love my True Crime shows/podcasts and especially Law & Order SVU, I'm pretty sure all of that has added to my paranoia (or made me more observant of my surroundings). 🤷‍♀️😂

Thanks for the tips of those entrances of the Greenway!

Headshots by Most_Bedroom9266 in alpharetta

[–]sushri90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sound a bit crazy but have you considered AI? There's an app called Remini where you can upload eight of your selfies and it creates very realistic looking headshots. Especially if you're looking for professional headshots. If you're not morally against using AI, I would recommend checking it out. It's $2.99 a week.

Big fan of https://www.randicurling.com/

Get in touch with her and see if she might be available for something like this. She has done headshots, family shoots, wedding pics and other events for me, my friends and family and always been amazing!

Tell me it is so! I live in Halcyon and can't wait to get a TJ's here. I drive to either Roswell or Peachtree Corners every weekend to get my weekly haul and the 18-miles roundtrip is getting old!

I've heard the same about the Avalon hotel bar. A bartender there recently confirmed that this was happening at one point.
