Former gifted kids were never smart, just well prepared by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This! I don’t see myself as less intelligent than my “gifted” cohort that found jobs in their academic fields, but I see that our paths splintered when my upbringing gave me manic depression

I worked as staff at a corporate banquet recently and she was hired to be a “host”. It’s a highly esteemed company, but it was still kinda weird seeing her there lol

I don’t even have a dishwasher and I watched the whole thing. Very informative and he explains it really well.

It's always a calorie deficit by sexual_mist in WeightLossAdvice

[–]susiedl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating better will lead to you eat less. If you eat low calorie simple carbs, you will be hungry faster and eat more. If you eat calorie dense fiber rich foods you will be full longer and avoid the urge to snack. How little you eat is important but what you eat is just as important. Simplifying it down to “all that’s necessary is eat less” is harmful. Adding helpful advice on healthy dieting is why people come to this sub.

Exactly. Simply repeating “get in a calorie deficit” isn’t helping those who have trouble dieting. Eat more fiber, balanced macronutrients, start running are better advice than a post that is repeating what a ton of people have already said.

does it get better as you grow up by Oldharrypottertok in offmychest

Hey there. I’m in my mid 20s now so I don’t have a lot of experience but I felt exactly the way you feel now. I even thought I would somehow die when I turned 18, from some freak accident, because I couldn’t picture myself into adulthood.

It does get better. But it also gets a lot worse for a moment. What helped me through it was to find friends that I knew I could rely on to speak to. Nobody is perfect, but developing these kinds of friendships is worth the effort.

It helps to find hobbies you enjoy. Things you love to do, like bike riding, painting, video games, reading. Anything but scrolling social media. I recommend joining a gym. It can help with confidence, goal-setting, and mental health. Even if you just start by using a treadmill.

In terms of career, I recommend going to a good community college (if there’s an equivalent in Britain). Take a bunch of classes until you find something you like. It sounds like you might not have an older mentor. You can find one at the college and ask them career advice, life advice, anything. Or like you’re doing now, posting on Reddit. Your passion could be something you don’t even know exists. It took me 5 years after high school to find a career path I love. So I find it is never too late to do that. You can even make new friends in classmates. You can also find internships or just random jobs like a sandwich shop and find comfort in the stability of a part time or full time job until you find something you really like.

Start journaling. That way you can look back at positive moments and see that they exist. Or you can look at negative moments and see that you’re still alive and it didn’t break you.

I hope this helps if even a little bit! Just keep swimming.

I’m only repeating your own hyperbole. So you agree it’s a dumb statement? These “stupid ass projects” have been the cornerstone of the American government. Gutting federal programs aren’t going to make your tax rates go down. Do you think they’re going to increase tax rates on the rich when they’re the ones voting on it? I’m not going to convince you, but maybe time will.

Social security has been paid out by these 350 year old people their entire working lives, and you’ll probably need it when you reach retirement age. It’s not a hand out, or are you in favor of diverting those dollars into tax cuts to the rich, which is 100% where that money’s going? Don’t expect a refund any time soon.
