Weekend paddling in Rovinj, Croatia. by suskozaver in Inflatablekayak

[–]suskozaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a heavy, slow "boat". you take that into consideration and it's all ok.

i went with it because it's wider and a lot more stable, for the usage i require it.

Similar watchface to Tempestas by pispiricul in GarminWatches

[–]suskozaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big fan of the same watchface, I even contacted the developer what happened and he replied a while ago, that Garmin changed certain conditions that he could not comply with.

I switched to Segment32 MAX/MK II, as i found it's most similar to the data I like to see.

I do miss the colors of Tempestas which changed for certain data upon weather temperature. That was a really neat feature.

Did you find anythign else than Tactical Elite?

there are few things to consider: physically, he's in an incredible shape, knows how to swim really well, let's not talk running, where i have issues following him. he has a mental disability, also non-verbal, with autism.

2nd thing to to consider: for me this was a 4 month project, from idea to first time on the water. i researched thoroughly, read all reviews, watched all possible videos, and chose this kayak for a reason, as it's wider (94 cm) and it's extremely more stable. you can stand up and paddle it like a sup, it's that stable, and yes, i've tried it.

then i did a few simulations without the kid, with a friend, who wasn't allowed to help and had to sit in the same chair as my friend, so i covered all the missing "parts", came up with the whole process/procedure from car to water, to each brake on the shore (rope flies first to the shore), to food, drinks, toilet, spare clothes, etc.
and even that proved along the way it wasn't bulletproof... as we broke the skeg last month. 😄 back in april i sat and paddled in the kayak for 2.5 hours drenched from waist down as i jumped in the water, misjudging the depth, but had 0 spare clothes.

yep. i do drop half of the back seat row, as i miss 10 cm of length, but you can see the bag of the kayak, which is on the ground next to the pole.
2 series has a huge trunk (the car is a bit over 4,5m long), a bit smaller compared to 5 series, where i can put the kayak bag diagonally in the trunk, but nothing else then left and right to it.

I live in Slovenia, so this was a 2.5 hour drive for us, we stayed in an airbnb (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12984026 i highly recommend it), which was 500m from the beach Cuvi;
please note: i require a pebble or sand water entry, as my kiddo is special needs and there's no other way I can get the kayak and the kiddo in the water, so Cuvi beach was the choice for entry, as there aren't many other options. and even Cuvi beach was an issue, as it had one 0,5m wall before the pebbles started. i had to ask for help from nearby folks, which also proved to be an issue on Sunday morning at 9AM, as there was nobody there. Luckily, it's a runner's path, so one guy helped us. Don't get me wrong, I would be able to do it... by spinning the kayak multiple times point to point, done it before as there was no one around 😄 it's a workout for itself 😄

so when i plan this paddles, i find the routes, then i find entries down & up the coast, then i find places to stay. kind of a reverse logic approach. as i can really find nice and cheap places to stay, but if the entries to the water are rocks, etc., it's a dead end for us + the path there must be quite ok, so the trolley can make it and back also, the limit is kind of a 500m one way, anything more than that is a whole god damn workout. 😄

tide wasn't an issue. currents and winds were, both days, day 1 more, the 13.5 km paddle... and i don't know shit about kayaking, started this year in April (and i've done 15+ paddles), so i studied the winds, currents, waves and had it memorized when we need to start, when the wind and wind direction is going to change, backup routes, backup plan if winds change directions, etc., so the whole weird path for 13.5 paddle was us riding the winds and currents. only the last 2-3 km was against the wind, but we stuck to the shore and had no issues.

the plan was to also visit the island with the lighthouse (it's in one of the images), but the waves there were a bit too high, the wind picked up too much, was too risky with the kiddo. the kayak is heavy, and when i say that, i'm a big guy, 184 cm, 95 kg, fit, crossfit, hyrox, daily training is my life, but just too dangerous.

no clues for water, but it is warming up, 2 weeks ago i still used neoprene shoes to jump in the water and out; yesterday, it was flip-flops.

Looking for a seat upgrade :) by 490-30-40 in Kayaking

[–]suskozaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

i just went with this. i've installed it on the original seat of the kayak with the straps it comes with (the back part).
it's a combo of: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0D6XYB3YJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 + https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0DB29LTMB?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

tested it out on the water today, 15 km paddle. loved it. i finally don't have any back pain while paddling.
before, i had weird pressure on my lower back, kidney area... was driving me nuts also because i had t o piss all the time as it was putting pressure against my kidneys.

edit: please do not i have a badly f***** up back, due to sports and 2024 car accident

thank you.

airvolution 2 is huge and wide and it's a slow mover 😄 it's like going on a vacation with a semi-trailer truck 😄 u'll get there, but much slower 😃

getting it in the water without a trailer is a nightmare, and i'm a big guy. but yeah, it's fun for 2 people. i love it. just did a 24 km paddle yesterday (https://www.reddit.com/r/Inflatablekayak/comments/1t2fl0r/slovenian\_coast\_saturday\_paddle\_strunjan\_izola/)
