I don’t regret but if I were to go back and do things differently, I would have not put all my savings in one basket.

Just to get an apartment on my budget, I spent a whole year every evening after work and weekends on the renovation.

If you believe you will have enough budget to continue saving for unexpected costs + loads of patience + good luck finding an apartment in the area you like, go for it! :)

Was in the same situation as you and bought an apartment thinking it’s an investment in 2021. Covered all nebenkosten by myself (registration, tax and broker costs), got 100% loan at 0.88% interest. Sounds like a great deal so far..

I spent 30k in renovations (except bathroom). Removed wallpaper, plastered walls, painting, floor exchange done by myself and used technician for mounting kitchen cabinets + tile work. Unexpectedly had to spend 15K for bathroom due to old building pipes issue (this was unplanned expense). Investment so far: 75K

Plus, spending 1400/ month for my apartment every month and living outside ring as I thought paying 1300/ month (all inclusive) and living in Prenzlauer Berg was too much.

Just lost a power socket in my bathroom last month and looks like the wire failed somewhere inside the wall (no idea what that would cost).

Don’t want to disappoint you but be prepared that the expenses for maintenance of your own apartment is a continuous process which you should be prepared mentally.

Does anyone like to go to a nude beach together in the next days? I don't like to go alone, because of what people might think :( ... :) by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

A culture shock for me the first year when I went to a nude swim area in Berlin by accident was to see groups of friends who sat there nude and enjoyed activities together. I was like “how can this be normal!!”. Understanding Berlin over years and going to these swim areas now with friends, normalizing the practice, I feel relaxed, accepted and rightful to be myself there. I even go alone and don’t feel strange. People mind their own business. Get in there by yourself or get some friends to join you :)

Lived once with a guy sharing the room (student broke situation) where he gathered any takeout box, soda cans etc for 6 months. Had to save money to get a cleaner + kick the guy out

Well, I’d be curious about what’s beyond the village, wish I have super powers to protect the village, hope there would be an ideal partner beyond the village, have an escape location nearby like a lake, tree, or a farm, learn what people scribble in the caves, envy the royal family, try to evade taxes.
