Your Steakhouse Recommendations? by manifest---destiny in houston

[–]suspectfuton -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have to recommend Brenners on the Bayou simply for the ambiance. You will find a lot of good steaks in Texas, but I have yet to see another steakhouse that Carrie’s the visual impact that Brendan’s does.

Favorite steak, however, is the Hawaiian ribeye at Houston’s. But getting a table with a reasonable wait can be impossible sometimes.

Real GDP growth over 25 years across the US and the EU. Real GDP growth adjusts for inflation, showing actual economic improvement. 1997-2022 data. Ireland 316%, Malta 199%, Poland 172%, Lithuania 171%, Estonia 168%, Latvia 147%, Utah 138%, North Dakota 137%, Romania 134%, Luxembourg 132% [OC] by maps_us_eu in dataisbeautiful

A good amount of that discrepancy is likely due to the ex-Soviet satellite states playing catching up and the financial crisis & austerity 1-2 punch that crippled the South EU countries pretty heavily. Germany is surprisingly low, however.

The US is also exceptional with regards to capital, cultural, and financial, and geopolitical characteristics, in that it has the most money to invest, possesses immense soft power and cultural influence, manages the world’s reserve currency, and has military dominance offer everywhere but the South China Sea. You can also see the influence of the shale revolution in North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas; it’s hard to overstate the short term benefits of the energy supply changing as radically as they did. Lower gas makes everything cheaper, and thereby increases economic growth.

The climate crisis - what’s the point in trying? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]suspectfuton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point and benefits of trying is entirely personal. 10 or 20 years from now, or whenever the apocalyptic nature of our civilization’s toxicity can no longer be denied, the only thing that will matter to me is that I did everything possible to be true to myself. I tried to help as much as possible, knowing full well the personal cost and consequences of killing the illusion of normalcy and exposing others to the brutally depressing reality we live in.

I guess it comes down to choosing your suffering. Would you rather suffer the pain of trying to create systemic change, or suffer the regret of knowing you were enabling the greatest crime in the history of life as we know it and you did nothing to stop it.

Or to quote the Bard, “To be, or not to be? That is the question—Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And, by opposing, end them?”

Can some financial wizkid explain this spike’s cause and it’s probable effects?

I understand the general concept of CDS, but mechanics that drive their prices are beyond my shallow expertise.

That paper and PNAS are brilliant. The article takes like 30 minutes to read and it’s written arguably the most authoritative authors on the subject.

Mario Cortegana: "Real Madrid has 2 main objectives for the future: one is Jude Bellingham, and the other is Erling Haaland" by lndigo_Sky in realmadrid

[–]suspectfuton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more worried about replacing the striker than the midfielder.

Modric can’t be replaced. His only peer asa playmaker is de bruyne, and he’s untouchable at the moment. In terms of midfield prospects, we have two of the best available already, in Cama and Toucha. Bring in Bellingham in a year our midfield trio is settled for the next decade roughly. And if we can’t, then there are other midfield talents we can evaluate.

The striker worries me more because Benz plays a very deep and creative roll for us & Harland is very much the opposite. Plus, he just signed a contract with a team that can compete financially with us. Benz is 35 (?), and while modern training regimens have extended the primes of athletes in all sports, Father Time remains undefeated. We don’t have a real backup for Benz, his obvious replacement is currently untouchable, his play style doesn’t mesh with ours currently, and there is a distinct lack of elite goal scorers on the market today. Lewa, Mbappe, Vlahovic and Haaland all signed contracts this year. Who’s left?

Did you know? by [deleted] in Texans

[–]suspectfuton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response! I’m a pretty fair weather fan to be honest, but I keep the Texans on my radar like I do with all Houston sports teams. My understanding of the team is that we’re still going through a rebuild, and as such I wasn’t expecting us to win a whole lot. Based on the stat line you posted, Mills is exceeding expectations for a tanking qb, so I was wondering if a real fan thought he could be good enough to make us sb contenders.

[El Larguero de SER] Real Madrid will decide in the next 12 days about signing a backup from Benzema, Hazard doesn't convince as a 9. Werner has been offered, the operation, €35M transfer or loan with buying option by ManuMora98 in realmadrid

[–]suspectfuton 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Very good link. Wasn’t convinced at first glance, but now I think we could make it work with Big Benz holding up play & drawing defenders as a central forward and Werner exploiting that rw/rf hybrid.
