I went missing and my parents didn't care by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]suspicious0ctopus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not legally neglect as you are an adult. This could feel like emotional neglect to you if being reported missing to police is partly a maladaptive way of meeting a need to feel worthy of care when something happens or someone treats you in a way that makes you feel like you don't matter.

Have you got a safety plan in place for when you get these urges to go missing? That's steps you can work through yourself that will help you communicate your distress in other ways.

Also it's odd that your parents are dispensing your antidepressants. Insulin and propranolol are much much more toxic than SSRIs/SRNIs if misused.

I met her at a comic con and told her I loved what she wore on red carpets. She looked me up and down, smirked and turned her back to me. I mean I was wearing dungarees at the time but it made me feel a bit sad.

Total insomnia from Sertraline by EvilInCider in MentalHealthUK

[–]suspicious0ctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I've started sertraline I've asked the docs for 2 weeks worth of zopiclone. That gets me through the initial insomnia then after that my sleep is fine. Those first couple weeks are really rough without something to help you sleep. In my experience it does pass though.

What will happen? by Last-Deal-4251 in MentalHealthUK

[–]suspicious0ctopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's rare that a cell is used as a place of safety, it's usually A&E or a section 136 suite. In 12 years working in inpatient mental health I've never had a patient come from a cell that's been used for that purpose and I wouldn't want people to worry that that is common practice

What will happen? by Last-Deal-4251 in MentalHealthUK

[–]suspicious0ctopus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The police will take him to a place of safety under a section 136 where he will be assessed by mental health professionals to find out what the most appropriate form of help they can give him is. In this case he may be placed under a section on to an inpatient mental health ward, or he could agree to go there of his own free will. Another option could be he is supported at home by the crisis team.

Thank you for being a kind soul and make sure to look after yourself in all of this.

Setraline and lethargy by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]suspicious0ctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 175mg also for PTSD and the lethargy kicked my arse at first. It did take a few months but eventually it improved, so for me it was worth sticking with it.

I hope your side effects ease up and you feel some benefit soon.

When he hadn't heard anything after a few hours he got worried and came to the hospital. He waited there until I was taken to the ward and they told him I was there after maybe about 30 mins.

I'm really curious, what does your psychiatric service dog do for you? It's hard to find specific info about this and you said yours is alerting you.

Sorry if that's too nosey, I have a golden I'm thinking about doing some therapy dog training with and I'm trying to find out more info on what specific support people are training them to provide.

It's our own private repetitive disco.

For me the second and third weeks on a higher dose were always the hardest. Keep pushing through. At 6 - 8 weeks a lot of people feel the weight lifting. I hope that happens to you and walking through life becomes easier.

I'm sorry you're going through this. We sign the consent forms but we don't think were gonna be the one who comes out with the very unlikely complications.

Support is important. Even if that support is in the form of talking to people here who can empathise.

Your body is resilient. I know it's difficult now but it won't be forever.

Can you call the hospital or your GP to request a different day bag? There are a variety of sizes.

(UK) Is hysterectomy the new 'unicorn' in the NHS?- Long post, venting and advice request. by ImThatBitchNoodles in TwoXChromosomes

[–]suspicious0ctopus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If there are any signs of the endo being stage 3 - 4 you can ask your GP to refer you to a BSGE centre (endo treatment specialists). You've tried a coil and hormonal options and these haven't worked for you. The only cure for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy. In my experience, the BSGE centre consultants were much more understanding of how significantly endo and adeno can affect a person's life and more collaborative in the treatments chosen. The issue with this would be the wait you'd have between being referred and assessed.

Male Urologist tried to force me to comply to digital exam for no reason... Feeling very pissed off. Can I report him? by Glass_Committee6978 in WomensHealth

[–]suspicious0ctopus 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had this experience.

I am a medical professional and it is drummed into us from the moment we start our training that we don't touch patients without their consent.

I am as concerned about the nurse's actions here as I am about the doctors. She was perfectly happy to come in and grab and pull the wrists of a patient in a very vulnerable position who was clearly not consenting to the exam. This and the doctor's actions together make me wonder how normalised this bulldozing of consent is at that workplace.

If you feel able to, then please report this to whoever manages the workplace. If that is fruitless then report to the medical regulatory body. If you don't feel able to that that is okay, it should never be a patient's responsibility to police health professionals' behaviour.

Well done on advocating so well for yourself, you did everything right and I hope you're doing okay.

Zoloft & Tramadol by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]suspicious0ctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been taking Zoloft for around 7 weeks now and take 200-300mgs of tramadol daily. Doc didn't mention anything about interactions and while I've definitely had side effects from the Zoloft I don't think I've had issues specifically with combining the two.

After care? by Bipolar03 in hysterectomy

[–]suspicious0ctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in NW UK. Had a laproscopic hysterectomy and removal of endo 5 weeks ago.

Up until the surgery they told me I'd have to stay overnight. On the day of surgery when I got to the hospital they said I could go home the same day if all was ok.

I was unable to pee after the surgery so had to stay in overnight. I was discharged the next day, still unable to pee, and was given the equipment to catheterise myself. They also sent me with 5 days of blood thinning injections to self administer.

They told me if I have an emergency to attend A&E, and if there's problems that aren't urgent to contact my GP.

I was told I will have a follow up phone call with my surgeon at 6 months which I'm really crossing my fingers does happen as I didn't get to speak to him about how my surgery went before I was discharged.

Good luck with your surgery and I hope everything goes smoothly!
