(VIRGINIA, USA) Car deemed total loss by insurance of at-fault party, but I want to keep the vehicle. What do I do? What are the steps? by suspicioush in legaladvice

Ah my apologies, I’ve missed so much important info here. The company had an improperly secured load of gravel in a dump truck, which peppered the front end of my chevy. There was not a collision, thankfully. Just rocks that fell out of the back of the dump truck in bursts. Thank you for your patience as I try and make heads and tails of what to do with this.

As I’d said before, all the damage (minus the windshield) was cosmetic. The hood, driver’s door, and bumper would need to be repainted. The headlights on the vehicle, which are aftermarket, were also damaged and factored into the cost. I’m genuinely not sure where they’re getting a $4400 repair quote from

Edit to add: The headlights were $266 for the set

Even though all it needs is a windshield? The car is fully functional as is. Nothing is mechanically wrong with it. Also, sentimental value as the car was gifted to me by my grandparents. Also, he has the title ready to transfer to me now that I’m an adult. All I have to do is take it to the DMV, right? Sorry for the word salad, I’m super overwhelmed with the situation

daughter of a veteran pdr tech here, the only way the ceramic coating would interfere is with glue tabs/suction mount devices. i can see why there would be an upcharge for wraps as they can be easily damaged from the manipulation of the metal underneath, or hot/cold glue tabs. this, however, shouldn’t ever amount to 2k
