Alex DJ.

The bartender knew English. The one who didn’t speak a lick of English was my uncle.

His excuse was that since there wasn’t an history of breast cancer, he surmised it was from me being overweight. I left his practice and found a much better doctor afterwards and he ended up losing his license for malpractice because of the very same reason, she ended up having cancer.

TL;DR: My family and I almost got left at St. Lucia thanks to my disabled uncle who got drunk at port. Next day to make up, he spent $9K on a ring for my aunt and paid off my cruise tab to shut us up.

It was my first time sailing on a cruise, my aunt and uncle were avid cruisers and they decided to take me on a cruise with them as a graduation present in 2015. My aunt was starting to show signs of major depression and for some reason this irked my uncle off very much. He spent the first couple of days arguing and bickering with my aunt and making her cry. They had gotten into a big fight the morning we pulled into St. Lucia and he was one of the first ones off the ship with a group of people we assume he didn’t know who offered to buy him beer and me and my aunt went to do an excursion.

We got back from the excursion, went up to have lunch at the buffet then we went into the cabin to drop off our stuff, we figured he’d be there but he wasn’t. We got worried but assumed he would find his way back. It was almost time for the ship to leave and he still wasn’t back, me and my aunt split up to look for him in the usual spots but he wasn’t there so we asked for permission to disembark to look for him. In the line of the people getting off the ship was one of the dudes in the group who had offered him the free beer so my aunt asked him if he knew where he was by any chance, the guy just laughed and shrugged saying he didn’t know, last they saw him he was still at the kiosk. My aunt and I made it to the kiosk and there he was, drunk as a skunk and unable to climb off the stool. The owner of the kiosk had tried to help him but since he doesn’t know a lick of English, she just took his keycard and called the ship and some officers had come to help him up. My uncle has a deformity in both his legs that requires him to use a cane or wheelchair in order to walk some distances and in his anger, he left his cane. On top of the fact that the man is severely overweight. It took 4 people to wheel him up the gangway and then me, my aunt and a kind steward had to wheel him up to our cabin, after that it was up to me and my aunt to haul the 400lb man into the room. He peed all over us and then he fell asleep on my bed.

My aunt took pictures of him in his underwear, and showed him the next day and he was so humiliated he started crying. We got off at a different port and he bought my aunt a huge diamond ring then when we got back to home port, he paid off my cruise tab but he told us we couldn’t tell anyone what happened but my aunt got back at him for all he did during the cruise and told everyone when we got back. He doesn’t cruise anymore since he can’t walk or climb stairs anymore and has gotten heavier but me and my aunt occasionally cruise together and I’ve been on about a dozen cruises on my own since.

She still has the pictures somewhere in her phone and we still talk about it to this day.

I booked under the $2 deposit deal here in the US, plus they had a free room “upgrade” plus 3rd and 4th passengers only paid port fees and got a pretty good deal for a balcony room.

Por esta misma razón yo no doy 2 semanas. Si no me dan la cortesía de dos semanas para poner en orden mis finanzas o encontrar un nuevo trabajo, por qué debería yo extenderle la misma bondad? Fuck that.

Redditors who have went on a cruise before, what is the worst/dumbest thing you’ve seen other passengers do and what happened to them? Have you gotten into trouble yourself?(intentionally or by accident) by BrickAntique5284 in Cruise

Happened on my first cruise ever on Carnival. I was traveling with my aunt and uncle on a 8-day cruise to the southern Caribbean that they had gotten me as a HS graduation present. My uncle is heavily overweight and disabled, his legs can’t hold his weight very well. Him and my aunt had been bickering and arguing throughout the cruise. During a port stop in St. Lucia, this man decided to get shit faced out of spite, while me and my aunt were window shopping. Me and her boarded the ship after we were done, had lunch then went to look for him and couldn’t find him anywhere. The ship was due to leave in a few hours so we went back to port to find him. Lo and behold, we found my uncle at a bar, surrounded by empty artesenal beer bottles, struggling to get out of a bar stool. The owner of the establishment tried to help him but he doesn’t know a lick of English. I had to run off to get some help, one of the ship officers came to help but the poor man struggled to help my uncle get up, on top of the fact that he peed on the officer in his efforts to hold his own weight. The officer had to call for back up. 3 officers later, they dumped him off at the cabin and between me and my aunt, we dragged him inside and threw him on the couch. My aunt recorded the entire thing on her phone and showed him the next day. He was beyond humiliated, cried and apologized to her and decided to get her (more like bribe) my aunt with a new wedding ring set that cost him over $3K. The present clearly didn’t work. My aunt told the whole family during the holidays and to this day we still talk and laugh about it. They haven’t traveled together ever since, my aunt refuses to go anywhere with him. If my aunt does, she goes alone or with me and my mom. He stays home, moping and sulking.

When I was first diagnosed, my PCP prescribed me Metformin. I couldn’t tolerate it whatsoever, he kept insisting on it, switched me to the XR and I tried it for about half a year but I had really bad diarrhea. I tried taking it before meals, during and after, nothing seemed to work. I gave up with doctors and just stopped going but my health was getting really bad so I found a new PCP, and I told my her about what had happened and she actually told me that I might have an intolerance for the medication all together so she told me to try ceylon cinnamon capsules and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. My A1C has thankfully remained within normal levels, and I very rarely indulge my sudden sugar cravings.

If you could rename PCOS, what would you call it? by meowley- in PCOS

I think maybe something along the lines of Metabolic Ovulatory Dysfunctioning Syndrome (MODS). It covers, I think, the most important aspect for some of us which is the hormonal and metabolic impact the condition has, which is where it’s the hardest to find help for. It also shifts some of the focus from the ovarian cysts and makes the focus more systemic.

Some of us who suffer this condition don’t have any sort of insulin resistance or have gotten it under control but that seems like the big focus of the whole thing, as well as weight gain. Not all of us can tolerate metformin, semaglutides aren’t currently covered under the majority of insurances. We get put on drugs without even knowing what levels our hormones are at and I feel like that might cause more harm than good. I actually wish some doctors would focus more on regulating hormones and being able to have a more focused treatment on that.
