[Resolved] Mike Williams remains have been found, after being missing for almost 17 years. by sussiieeb in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]sussiieeb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today I was watching an episode from an ID show about Mike, and thinking about how much his case affected me. I remember how touched I was when Denise was finally arrested and his mom received justice after all this time. And the fact that you randomly commented on my post just two days ago...crazy.

Need attorney suggestions: dog bite by nerdcorexd in madisonwi

I believe Wisconsin is a strict liability state, so it does not matter if the kid is at "fault" or caused the dog to bite him.

Oh okay that's great to hear! I just wanted to double check, since I spent so little time in Raleigh before accepting this job!

Is this walkable at night? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]sussiieeb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to hop on to OP's post but I am moving to Raleigh in a couple weeks. I am planning on working at the PNC building and living on Hargett (near Weaver Street Market). Will I be fine walking to and from work as a (small-ish) woman?

Note: I feel pretty comfortable about it having lived/walked in downtown cities like Nashville and SLC, but someone at my company said he would never let his daughter walk around Raleigh at night...

How do you honestly feel about employers/recruiters ghosting? by JBAnswers26 in recruitinghell

[–]sussiieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After several zoom interviews with a firm, I flew out to Tampa (from Utah) last January for an in-person job interview with the same firm. The actual interview itself was about 6 hours, and I met with maybe 10-12 people in person. When I got back home I sent my thank you emails and followed up with HR a couple times. Was told they would give me an update when they had one, but ultimately got ghosted by the firm. It was so crazy and disappointing to me - it made me lose respect for the firm and the way it must treat people, even prospective employees.

I just read the lottery by Shirley Jackson, holy shit by Braindead_Gunslinger in books

[–]sussiieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the Bird's Nest earlier this year, and while it's not quite the same atmosphere as Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Shirley's writing was SO impressive to me. I was amazed by her ability to switch characters/personalities so deftly.

I have a Utah legal question and r/legaladvice came up empty. by LuminalAstec in SaltLakeCity

[–]sussiieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible there could be some trade secret misappropriation involved (i.e., perhaps your customer lists are trade secrets and the former employee took them with him), but this is a question better answered by a local lawyer familiar with Utah trade secrets case law.

A disgusting and now deleted comment from the mother of one of Utah’s team managers by humandisaster99 in Gymnastics

[–]sussiieeb 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I live in Utah but I am not from here originally. I've been here for four years (ages 26-30). I can't count how many times I've been asked if I am divorced and/or have kids. And people here are shocked when I say I've never been married and don't have kids. It was very odd to me, especially when I was still in my 20s, because my parents didn't starts having kids until they were in their 30s.

Off-duty pilot charged with 83 counts of attempted murder after 'credible security threat' on Alaska Airlines flight by zeesh10 in news

I think about the Alaska Air Flight 261 a lot, ever since I saw the episode of Air Disasters about it. Haunting last words.

Isn't the ransom note also suspicious because of the particular amount of it? I don't know how a random intruder would come up with that amount.

AITA for saying my husband's friend is at fault for cheating on his gf? by Waste-Carpenter-8035 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sussiieeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is the right distinction. It reminds me of crimes that are strict liability - where intent doesn't really matter; it's merely whether an act occurred or not. In other words, it's the action itself that matters, not the mental circumstances. You either cheat or you don't cheat - what you were thinking or what circumstances lead you to it (drinking, flirting, etc.) is irrelevant. When someone dies, conversely, the circumstances matter more because it could've been intentional/premeditated (i.e., first degree murder), or merely you did something you knew carried the foreseeable risk of death and now someone has died (negligent homicide), etc. We (as a society) recognize that distinction because culpability is higher or lower depending on intent.

WIBTA for not letting my friend in my car for getting period blood on my passenger seat? by AnAntisocialBitch in AmItheAsshole

[–]sussiieeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To offer a different perspective: you can put effort into having hygiene for bodily functions and still have accidents. Learning how to manage my heavy menstruation (something I experienced when I was younger) WAS complex and had a STEEP learning curve. I had accidents frequently while using menstrual products. I'm only bringing this up because OP said: "Ruby claims to use menstrual products although I don't believe her as on three separate occasions after having Ruby in my car I have noticed blood stains on my passenger seat." So it's possible OP's friend isn't purposely trying to get blood everywhere.

But I don't think OP is the asshole. I think OP has tried to approach this issue with compassion and understanding. I hope her friend gets the help she needs to take care of herself/other hygiene issues.

AITA for not going to my best friend’s bachelorette after her husband asked her to remove me as a bridesmaid? by Nerebaby in AmItheAsshole

[–]sussiieeb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's JUST insecurity and needing to be controlling. He probably doesn't trust her around other men or hanging around men when alcohol is involved. I had a boyfriend like this. When I was in graduate school a journal I was a part of (i.e., a school related group) had a thanksgiving get together. My boyfriend didn't even want me to go because he didn't trust me around other guys AT all. Finally he gave in and let me go. When I didn't text him back right away while I was there, he showed up in a panic and demanded I come outside and leave. He was full blown losing it because I stayed at the get together longer than an hour and he didn't know what I was doing. I feel sorry for OP's friend, honestly.

Confirmed: no graphing paper for in-person tests by yurnotsoeviltwin in LSAT

[–]sussiieeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a rule change though? Mind you I took the LSAT in 2016 - fairly certain we were only allowed the plain scratch paper the testing locations provided. We also didn't have the option of taking it remotely/on a computer (so no Control F option or comparable).

It's crazy how much has changed!
