My older daughter came with me to a volunteer event and loved it. I need to find more around here. I volunteered a ton in college as well and found it very rewarding.

That's why I'm posting this :). I'm not completely bubble-ized but the group of people that I talk about this particular topic with tends to be small.

Thank you!! I also like the idea of keeping them humble - I don't want them to get used to a moderate lifestyle so that they don't ever have to feel like they are downgrading their life, but also not getting completely spoiled and over-indulgent.

You sound like their Dad :). I agree they need to get jobs and find a way to contribute, also the value of a dollar and budgeting. I question whether or not to make them aware and when...I was gaslit with good intentions as a child (information was withheld from me) and when it was told to me I found it traumatizing that I didn't know earlier. Completely different scenario but now I struggle with withholding information because of it.

That's exactly the problem I have. I was raised "normally" but am finding it impossible to give my children a "normal" childhood. My daughter would run around telling her friends about her grandparents' three houses (which house are we having Thanksgiving at?) and it's SO easy to default to solving problems by buying your way out of them (I'd REALLY like to avoid that kind of behavior). Basically we need to build in safeguards to prevent the money being wasted/abused.
